How many computers you runnin'?

One Mac laptop which I brought new last year but then realised I needed
windows...so installed boot camp. One really old Dell laptop that is for kids
and a backup jic.

Once I have my IM stuff automated to perfection and clarified what I want to
specialise in I will look at VPS then but don't know enough about it just now.
Got a couple of good recommendations from people on this site :D

Running one, I use Virtualbox and load up Windows XP (currently running in linux) for all my SEO purposes. Don't have much to worry about since I keep windows XP strictly for SEO. If all fails in Windows I would just do a fresh re-install in a new virtual manager.

Acer Aspire One Netbook - Mainly for coding and writing copy.

High end Desktop + 22'' LCD - For running all SEO tools, social media bots etc.

Planning on buying a Mac Book Pro for alot of design stuff and video editing. Can`t justify the price though.

Nope, Because if the main computer does down then ALL of it goes down.
This way if one computer fucks up and BSOD's or something, then its down for minimal time. I have the computers linked together in a sense. If one fucks up in any way it sends an email to my email and then that forwards it to my cell phone so I know ASAP if anything goes wrong and i can fix it.

The power is unreal, its $1,000+ per month. But so is what they make me ;)

I have 3 notebooks, but only use 2 of them, as my little daughter often uses the third one :)
 
1 Laptop for good work,djing,movie encoding..keep her in tact
1 acer revo to leave on downloading, low power consumption
1 desktop whore,all dodgy apps etc on this slut :O)
2TB server
old xboxs with xbmc on them as media extenders round the house
 
4 screens - over 2 machines - using synergy love my setup
 
ok, sigh, I better come clean about the computers I have.

1 PC desktop.
1 Mac
11 VPS's
17 Dedicated servers
 
Currently just my Macbook.

I run one Mac Pro, but I have 3 20" monitors. Usually I have a Windows 7 VM running with xrumer/hrefer on one and other stuff on the other two.

I'm down to one computer now with dual 22" displays. I do all my "dirty" work on virtual machines. I've had good luck with Virtual PC from Micro$s0ft. I've been able to run everything from OS/2 Warp - which is actually pretty awesome believe it or not -- to the Linux flavor of the week. For my production stuff, I create a new virtual machine running XP Pro for each project.

The physical box is running an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 6 core processor (just got it and it's awesome!). Having a multi-core processor is a necessity if you're going to run more than one virtual machine at a time with a decent level of productivity. A dual core will work just fine if you're only planning on running one or two.

I also use this setup for my "clean" work. I'm able to use a clean VM to VPN into my company's network while doing whatever I want on my physical machine - including running VM's to do my dirty work.
