As i get deeper into the BHW, i figure i might as well keep my laptop clear so i dont go and frack things up and buy a few pc's to do some dirty work. how do you handle your pc lay out??
I just hooked up my macbook pro to an 24" monitor so I can work easier. Bigger space = easy to work with
I have three pcs. Desktop for SEO orientated work. Laptop for SEO orientated work. Desktop for Content Creation and general use. I'll admit im paranoid, but I don't trust a lot of software makers and I can't rip the guts out myself and hope to understand any of it, so i just run them on machines where it doesnt matter too much if I get hit.
One pc with a 17" monitor and it does me justice I admit it kills my productivity though lol. I'm gonna buy a new computer soon and hook it up to 2 monitors. One 20" monitor for gaming, music, facebook, homework, etc. Other 17" monitor for IM.
A laptop and three desktops. Use one desktop for storage, has big hard drive. Use one of the other desktops for SEO work, has bookmark demon etc on it. Other desktop has XAMPP on it, use it for trying out new scripts. Use Laptop for surfing, email and general usage.
thats about what i was thinking. 2 laptops and 2 desktops. one laptop for legit stuff, so i dont mess up my normal accounts and one laptop loaded with my 'other' stuff so i can take it on the go and then 2 desktops to work with so they can be doing work at the same time. im paranoid too. not just software, but when i was younger i f'd up my ebay account, my paypal account and just about anything you could frack up, i did. now after reading about the adzilla proxie cluster, i know they said its secure, i say, its time for more computers!!
1 netbook (portablity) 1 old ass toshiba laptop (simple jobs) 1 box I built myself with big ass flatscreen monitor (everything)
if i was smart this would be the next thing i would learn about... but i guess i never claimed to be smart actually i have, today even
well two pc's but think I need a couple of laptops and a wireless router cause I like to move travel around and not have to carry all the pc's and monitors last time I was in Miami flying to LA there was this magazine were they have some glasses were you can see the screen something like 50" I am thinking this would be cool for my laptop cause then I would not need to carry a larger monitor flat screen, I had a apple laptop and even though my degrees are in Microsoft I was blown away by how well and stable apple systems were sure they are expensive but support warranty and everything else is just amazing Suave
Ericsson setup. 1. One Desktop, 23" LCD. 2. U.K Standed VDS. (Automated Bot Runnings) 3. Laptop to my wife. Hehe.
You don't really have to do that. Just get a Windows VPS or Windows Server and Remote Desktop into them and it'll be like having many computers at your advantage. What's great is that you can keep it running all the time and the electric bill won't hit your roof.
I have: 1 laptop 1 dedicated server Just building my new office now. Almost finished. I want a 2 pc setup when i am in there
Lets see as of right now we have 22 servers, 143 desktops and 19 laptops. Sounds like a lot but we used to be a hosting company until I decided that I wanted to change directions of where the company was going. so thats about a quarter of what we used to have when we were hosting a lot of customers. Now I only offer hosting to close an seo deal or a web design deal. Figured why not. Brady
used to have my desktop and my laptop along with my families two desktops and two laptops. I also had a few friends computers running some light background programs that made me some money. Now I use a Mac Book Pro only, with a Win7 partition, and Virtual Box (its free, don't have to mess with a torrent, and serial/crack/paying) but it doesn't use my boot camp partition yet. And a few external HDDs. I also use Cross Over (wine) sometimes. And a shared webhost. Also have a cheap Dual Wan router, I got it after my Time Warner Beta Test was over, and my Free 20-50mbit line dropped down to 5mbit. (they gave me a good discount after beta testing $100/mo for 4 dvrs with every premium channel, and the cable modems) I lost a good job recently, I was going to get a NAS, Myth TV, Dedicated off site server.
I use 3 desktops and a local server on a hardwired LAN. 1 computer to leave programs or downloads running 1 computer to work on 1 computer for in-house freelancer & misc. server hosts all files so that they can be used from any computer
I have 2 opteron 175 comps used as severs 2 quads phenoms (9960) something like that. They are self built with money from old video game cheating days. hehe natural black-hatter at heart here. I use the same setup =)
