I'm sorry if this thread has come up before, but I've read somewhere that if too many backlinks are built too fast, google will see it as un-natural and that can damage the site rankings.

So my question is: how many backlinks per day, in your opinions, are too much for a new site, compared to a site that's been up for, lets say, a year or 2? Does the anchor text play a part of the number of backlinks that can be built without being penalized?

I'd appreciate any answer. I'm fairly new to SEO, and am thankful for the opportunity to learn something from the pros!

notice there is no official "here is exactly how to rank a site" guide? that's because there are too many variables to answer. you have to test different things out for yourself. quality is always better than quantity though.
if you have money to spare, get fiverr gigs, one at a time and note what effect it has on the rankings. if not, learn how to find high quality links manually.
you can even dl a few wso's from here, pick a good one and follow what they say. you will probably be dissapointed with the results, but you will learn a lot

Backlinks are dangerous now. Penguin has changed everything. The simple answer to your question is "1". 1 backlink a day is one too many, especially if you are new. There are many "SEO's" that are still trying to use the old (meaning 4 month old) methods that have killed thousands upon thousands of websites since Penguin. You are staggering around in the post-apocalyptic Penguin wasteland. The old world is dead, and now we are killing people in order to steal their gasoline. Some of Penguin's punishments are permanent; the Nuclear Option of Mutually Assured Destruction. Some businesses are still selling spam backlinks, and some innocent & virginal newbs are still buying them. Fresh meat. Warm and fleshy chickens with hot and nutrient-rich blood offering money to pay for their own plucking. Standing in the middle of a diseased and decaying landscape, populated by the bodies piled high upon one another, all dead from exposure to radioactive material, you are wondering how much Plutonium 239 is safe to ingest.

Lol @ above...

To answer your question in a nutshell: It's all relative, you can build 10 a day everyday or 1000 a day everyday, it's more important to remain consistent. And new domains are more sensitive to penalties than old ones.

there is no exact answer, the larger site the more backlinks, don't build too much links for a new site

yeah, i agree with the above posts...there is no one correct answer to this question...

just make sure you vary your anchor text either way...if you have hundreds of different anchor text, make thousands of different anchor text b/c this is the way google knows what is natural or not...

Well I think that if you need a very good site , if you want to get your site on top pages in different search engines then in start you should follow search engine rules. When you will have a grip on white hat seo then you follow black hat ones. I think that too many backlinks for a short time is not really good for your site. And if you become greedy to earn money using backlinking , then I would suggest you not to follow software in start.Because it would create backlinks in a large range. When google or other search engines sees while crawling that you are getting too much backlinks then it would dindex your site! You should create small amount of do follow backlinks on top sites.

Here is my 2 cents on the matter:

If your site is new, one link a day could be overkill as it creates a pattern. Google is very good in determining patterns. Randomness is the key to success when it comes to staying ahead of Google. I am not talking about 1, 3, 5, 1, 2, 3, 1, 3 5 either. You need the following:

Do-Follow Links
No-Follow Links
URL Links (No AHREFS)
Social Bookmarks
WIKI's
Blog Comments
Articles
Facebook Posts / Likes / Shares
Twitter Posts / Shares / Retweets
Pinterest Posts

The list can go on and on. The biggest thing is to not stick to one method. If you want to be "ignorant" and throw your money away, then stick to a "routine". You'll get penalized every time. My suggestion is this. Make your site look like a VIRAL sensation. Have a Facebook post with a lot of likes with a link in it. Social bookmark this mess out of it. Shoot some backlinks to your social bookmarks. Create some Wiki's that point to your main site. Rinse and repeat.

Now, to answer your question: 1 to Infinity (It all depends on what you are doing and how patternistic/fake it appears to Google).

I think what matters is consistency. If you start off with a lot coming in, it should remain that way.

Try to look at from another perspective. If you advertised your website on TV you would suddenly have your address crop up on social networking sites, forums, blogs... and then some people might start writing articles about the site/service and people would link to those, and so on; and with TV advertising a site could blow up in a big way.
Plenty of big companies do this, and their sites grow in popularity at an alarming rate, and they don't get deindexed.

The rate of growth just needs to be consistent, and the type of backlinking congruent with the rate of exposure.

A good press release can generate 40-50 links a pop or more. Buy a well aged domain, be smart and try to simulate viral content.

I'm buying consistent amount of backlinks at time to time. How many anchor texts do you suggest to be given to my bl seller so it will be diverse and natural backlinks?
What should the anchor texts be? domain, title, random words?

 This deserves to be a Hall of Fame post

Seriously, only 1 a day?

I think the volume does not matter that much anymore, its all about backlink relevancy and quality. You see, 10.000 spammy profile or blog comment links do not weigh up to one 1 edu link inserted in a blogpost. Its better to build a few highly diversed backlinks then a lot of blog comments etc

It depends on the age of your website and many other things. I have a 3 month old website and I'm building 10 links a day to it.

If you are new to SEO then I suggest you read this SEO guide thread and this SEO book.

How can we judge that it appears fake or real to google ?????

I've never seen such an exaggeration in all my time on this forum. Things are bad... but not THAT bad. You just have to be sneakier these days and ACTUAL content is becoming more and more important. Google is caring LESS about links, that's all.
