How long does it take to rank for keywords?

I have about a 2 weeks old site, it got indexed by Google about a week ago. I'm still waiting to get indexed by yahoo and Bing.

I just started back linking yesterday.

Some info about site:

Meta Tag Analysis:

Title: Title contains no errors.
This tag contains 13 characters. Title relevancy to page content is excellent. The Title relevancy to page content is 100%.
Description: Description meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 128 characters. Description meta tag relevancy to page content is good. The Description meta tag relevancy to page content is 75%.
Keywords: Keywords meta tag contains no errors. This tag contains 5 keywords and 55 characters. Keywords meta tag relevancy to page content is good. The keywords meta tag relevancy to page content is 80%.
Author: The Author meta tag contains no errors. This tag contains 12 characters.

Web Page Analysis:
The size of the web page.
The size of the web page is 67134 bytes.
The web page load time.
The web page load time is less than 1 second.

Keyword Density:
My main keyword: 1.99%
**I'm aiming for ~3-4%, I have a little work to do.
Back links:
Just started manual blog commenting, social bookmarking, article submitting, etc. yesterday. I havn't pinged anything yet. So nothing is showing up.

Ok so, here's the question,
How long does it usually take for a new site to start ranking for targeted keywords?

As always, any helpful input, suggestions, etc. are always appreciated and thanked.

I've seen it take anywhere from a day to a week.
it all depends on what you are doing and when your site gets crawled again.

It depends on the competition and how much work you do.

I agree. I bought a domain name on day one and by day 2 I was ranking number one for the keyword with some backlinking required of course. It was for a new not yet popular product so there was no competition.

This is a vague question.

It will depend on:
A) The quality of the links you build
B) The quantity of links you build
C) How unique the content is
D) How much content you have
E) How tough the competition is

Sometimes ranking a site takes days, sometimes months or years. It's all relative to the competition particularly but, also the points mentioned above.

No it is an irresponsible one.

There are a lot of factors that go into ranking and to ask "how long" is irresponsible.

You ask a Q like that and others believe that is a matter of time and not a matter of all the other things to take into consideration.

The Q is irresponsible and the expectations of a proper answer is indefensible.

NOT TRUE!

I just ranked 3 band new domains within a week and they were all .info's.

All whitehat links.... bookmarks, articles links,whois sites,some contextual blog links and a bunch of spun content for pages on a wordpress blog.

No big deal!

Not only do they rank but they rank on the first page for moderately ranked keywords that get great traffic. (300k-800k competition in quotes)

For tougher keywords add more links from document sites & a few press releases.

That's what I do....... and it works like a charm.

What is your favorite tool for that?

I've seen keywords rank within 45 mins:

Once I posted something on get a coder. I searched the big G for my title which I entered into get a coder, (clone of xyz site) and sure enough, #1. I was shocked. So I deleted my request on get a coder... crazy.
