For me, the first 3-4 years I just made spare change. A few hundred dollars. How long did you guys keep going until you had your "breakthrough" ?

Guess I'm half way on the road :) making enough to not care and not get a "real " job but still need to scale it up waaaaay more.

I am still looking for that breakthrough. I haven't hit any gold mines yet but hopefully I will this year.

Even i am working hard to achieve my goal .

I find IM to be a everyday learning and that is more important for me than the dollars..I could see it from my fellow colleagues (am employed full time in an IT services company) that I have gained much more knowledge not just in marketing but in technology that IM needs me to learn :-) This gives me more confidence to face the consequences if I am off work one day :-)

But yes, I am yet to make my first dollar in IM as a business though I have made a few as a freelancer in IM services..

5-6months, started earning something about month ago and I'm also working at full time job. IM earnings as for today gets me 2x bigger income than I get from my "normal" work.

haven't started earning because of my studies now my studies are coming to an end and i hope to make a lot money through all black hat methods

first 8 months I made ZERO then I put a few different methods together that started making me
$400 per month.

3 years later I make $ 2000+ per month on Fiverr selling a crap load of extras.

Funny thing is that I got $142 from Adsense for a website I made 3 years ago and I have not even touched it
you can't beat "Set and Forget websites" :)

Honestly though, as long as you're doing what you love, the amount it takes shouldn't matter.

I have been doing this for 3-5 months now and I'm about to launch my first product soon.

In past time, I needed around 2 years, to made first $100. :P

If you want to see the "breakthrough" in making money, you need to be persistent and consistent and focus one business model (e.g: affiliate marketing) and also traffic method (e.g: SEO).

Well been doing what I`m doing now for the last two years and making between $10k-$30k per month but I have no time left for many other things in life.

I started in 2009 ish. I had a nice gig fixing Xbox 360's with the red ring with ads on craigslist. Then moved to websites in 2010, I had my breakthrough in 2012. Until then, I was happy if I was making $10-$20 a day with Adsense. Then I started promoting Amazon and hit some big keywords, and thats when I started making the bigger bucks. Promoting Black Friday 2012, I think I made like $10k with Amazon in a week alone.

Things changed though, I moved on to other ventures.

I enjoyed my Xbox 360 Fixing gig the most.

I started making money online back in 2000 with a few adsense sites and selling on eBay. I don't remember how long it took to get past the spare change stage but I am sure it was most of that year because I was doing a lot of experimenting and learning (still am, that is just the nature of this business). But I know it was enough money to keep me motivated and moving forward.
