How important is the domain name?

I still trying to find a niche. One niche I consider is in the health sector. However, my competitor has already the perfect domain name but his website looks a little bit outdated and not that professional. So what should I do now. Should I get a bad long domain name and just make a better website?

You don't have to have an exact match domain to your keyword, so don't worry too much about it. It's better to go for a branded domain or a combination of both (Like the keyword followed by a catchy phrase or word). It'll look more appealing than for example: "dietteaforweightloss(dot)com"
 
I would suggest you to avoid long domain names. Get both a short domain name (max 10-12 characters) and a good websites.
This is important if you plan to get traffic by SEO
 
So you're asking if the branding is important? You know the answer already. Pick a great domain (you can find good generators on Google) and build a perfect website around it.
 
Shorter the domain name, longer the target keyword, higher the google ranking.
 
The domain is your "BRAND"

It should always be .com

Your brand name may not be related to your niche.

"Amazon" is the name of a land area. Or something "giant"

Bezos turned it into a "brand" that included ecommerce, product fulfillment and IT infrastructure services.

Advice - Find a GREAT PLR package related to health and re-purpose it to your specific health niche. Most of the work has already been done. Put the sales page and articles into a Wordpress install, add videos, add an Amazon store to a separate, but on the same domain, Wordpress install.

Give away an ebook to create your list and hopefully get them to click on Amazon. If they buy any product that day, you get paid. If you are using the WooZone Amazon plugin to populate the store then if they save the products they are looking at to their shopping cart, it puts a 90 day cookie on their system

here is important things to remember before choosing domain...
1. Make it brandable
2. Make it pronounceable
3. Make it short
4. Bias towards .com
5. Avoid trademark infringement
6. Make it intuitive
7. Use broad keywords
8. It's okay to append or modify it
 
When you are visiting a website your experience gets very impacted by their design, at that point if the design is outdated you immediately close it. That's why i consider u must focus on a good design, and get a short name. Good luck bud!
 
It depends on what you are trying to achieve - if it's SEO or if you are thinking of capturing 90% traffic from organic traffic, then having a good EMD would serve that purpose. Or if by change you are able to purchase a short .com , then these are easy to remember, and can be built into a brand later.
 
Dont overthink about domain name u should to use, whats important is to pick a good niche with low competition with great links and content.
 
The appearance of the website is very important for the views, because if your website seems boring, people will not continue to see it, so I think you should put more effort into the aspect and post interesting things on it.
 
I believe Moz's recent study (or maybe it was backlinko) shows that using the exact keyword in your domain actually worsens your SEO progress.
I believe that it's irrelevant. Just go for a catchy name, preferably a drop.
 
Ideally the domain name is short (i.e less than two words) and related to your niche. A brand name works great and is good for when you want to sell
