How important is it to niche down?

So I've been doing a bunch of long tail keyword research the past few days and I found quite I few I want to rank for.

Problem is they are all in completly different niches...

Cant I just make a website with a really broad theme/niche (like tutorials) and just create landing pages for each of the keywords? one page on fishing rods, another on webhosting and a third on shoelaces tutorials for example

or should i make seperate sites which would all just have 1-3 pages of content each?

Whats the better approach? Should i laserfocus niche down or can i get away with a website that has a bunch of stuff that is unrelated to one another?

If its really that broad Search engines etc will struggle to understand wtf your site is about, guessing it'd be possible but they say go specific and niche for a reason...

Plus, and no offence, the internet is full of these sites with 2 or 3 pages just trying to rank your affiliate link, yeah again... it would probably work, but why not put a bit of effort in? what makes you think your crappy 2-3 page website will be better than the rest/rank better than the rest.

I suppose the final thing it will come down to is the SERP you are trying to rank your pages on, if they're weak with no competition you might have luck for a while, but if it's competitive your confusing site will have no chance.

Actual, there was a thread recently that talked about something similar.

Personally, I don't think either of those approach are good. Random topics or 3 pages of strick topic. What I do is many pages of strict topic.

The thread was very helpful, thank you for linking that. And that made me think of something, I might do both.

I actually have a bunch of keywords that are related to each other, which could make a decent niche site if i put the effort in (and do more keyword research).

And then there are the other random ones that I'll just put on another site with a reallly broad theme.

I see many websites which has all type of contents in it, posts related to tech, health, business and all kind of topics in it and still it is ranking good, all you have to do is give useful information for your readers, do not create content for searchengine, create content for people and you will be rocking soon

laserfocus niche down will always be better imho. That’s what I did for my sites and it worked.
