When people say to "drip feed" your website it's content, take note, because it's very important to update regularly at first. I'd actually say it's better to add just a bit every now and then, rather than add a whole bunch at a time, and then give extra long lapses between when you update again.
Realize that not all websites are "drip fed" content anymore, like EzineArticles and YouTube. They've become large enough that Google understands they're expanding, that they have so much user created content that to penalize them for not drip feeding their websites content at a slower rate would be absurd.
So yes, good, unique, quality content is excellent for all websites, especially new ones just starting out.
