How I Got Started in Affiliate Marketing

I started 3 months ago, and here's some truths I found so far:

- it's not as easy as it seems - if you think you'll build sustainable passive income in 2-3 months, you're delusional - at least 12 months is realistic (ofc. there's exceptions)
- it's fun as hell, at least for me, as I get to learn SO MUCH, from building websites, to using new marketing methods, do content creation, explore all new AI tools, you get tons of dopamine hits because there's lots going on doing that, it's like a game
- the biggest risk of affiliate marketing: even if you put 3-6-12 months of work and attention into one affiliate program and build a sustainable income, you can be wiped out in one day - all it takes is for the company to discontinue their affiliate program, they can swap providers and something unexpected might happen, or they hire a new boss of whatever who decides to slash the commission from 30% to 10% (which happens) and you're basically done, SO, the lesson here is that you have to build multiple streams - it could be several products or services tied to one niche, as if one dies, the others will help you sustain, that's my focus at the moment
- all the best affiliate programs are imbpossible to join, unless you've build a massive following or website traffic already - I've seen saas / software related programs that share $500-1000 commissions on successful sale, but they won't accept you if you generate barely 1k visitors per month on your website and you're a smol fish

That said, these are my own observations so far as a total newbie.

It's a bit difficult here (but what isn't?), as products or services here often require a potential customer to think it through, to perhaps talk to their partner, to make up their mind etc as it's not cheap, so the 30 day cookie window is crucial here as they might come back after making the decision.

There's a lot of competition here too. I won't say the exact service or product though, but what I can say is that it's not supplements or some BS product or magic pill that allegedly makes you healthy and strong or whatever. It's a legit service that people need, it's just little difficult to sell.

If I was to start all over, I'd pick an easier thing to sell - something that causes less friction in someone's mind, and is more like an impulse type purchase. I am yet to figure out what that is.

What do I pay attention when choosing? Well... many things. But like always, we judge by the cover, so if their website is cool and they have thousands of great reviews, the niche fits your character and you're willing to promote it and be okay with it, then that's it for me.
