Ok, just giving an update since everyone is curious about penguin stuff lately. I had some sites for client businesses that feel pretty hard after penguin. I honestly just didn't feel like fooling with them to try to recover cause I'll be honest, I was kind of lazy and told clients it was a google update and to be patient. I especially didn't want to touch anything, since no one really knows that the fuck kind of drugs Penguin took before it climbed the tower and went on a website killing spree.
They went from the first page, to the 5th, then out out of the top 100. Then all of a sudden, a week ago, all of them were back on the first page at the top and holding! Even the ones that were on page 2 and 3 were on page 1. So what did I do... not a damn thing.
After reading a bunch of stuff on that Meth head Penguin, this is what seems like is the case. I don't the G gave Pengiun the ammo to kill everybody, But I do think Mark Cunts tattling approach has had a lot to do with whats going on. It kind of seem like the Penguin focused on link farms again, and known link networks, and such. G has always been kind of pissy about "unusual domain activity" when you get a bunch of indexed links to fast that don't seem natural. I think now, they are just cracking down on ones they know about.
So you can either be patient for a couple weeks, and see what happens, or drive yourself nuts! I didn't do a lot of special stuff to originally be ranked. I got fiverrs' for xrunner campaigns, link wheels, blog comments, social profile links, edu links, article submission and retweets. Once a month I'd just get the same fiverrs and I ranked high. and I'm sure if you have all the software you can do it yourself, but I'm cheap so I don't have a lot of them.
I also use SEO Yoast and SEOPressor as I always push clients toward wordpress. Two other great plugins are seo smart links plugin, and search term smart tags plugin. I did that last one cause I notices a lot of time I'll search for stuff on g and I would get lead to sites that used it, and it only list the incoming search terms at the bottom of pages, sometimes not even having anything to do with whats going on.
So thats my newbie way of doing things. Most of the clients I have have moderate to high competitive regional businesses.
