You're just starting out, so I would go for long tail keywords if I was you. It will be easier to rank and you can build up the tougher keywords over time.
If your articles are good and worth sharing, you may get a lot of visitors and people linking back to your site but it has to be really, really, really good content for it to go viral. In other words, don't worry so much about quantity, just focus on the quality and make it really "meaty". I would aim for lengthier articles -
long form gets more social shares. It seems you have a lot of content in you so that shouldn't be a problem. Even better if you can do both quality and quantity. If you release lots of articles in rapid succession in the first few weeks of launching the site, you will "train" the spider to visit your site on a regular basis. After that you can relax a bit once you have this traction. Make sure all you articles are unique, use
copyscape to check.
Study all the ways in which you can get traffic from SEO, paid traffic, viral marketing, link bait, guest posting etc. Don't just rely on one source.
Make sure your site is fast loading and SEO optimized. As your traffic increases, you may want to upgrade your servers to handle the traffic.
I would consider this a long term project so be prepared for the long haul. Keep at it and keep adding content. Work on your headlines. Afghanistan has been through a lot but has a bright future. As it grows over the next couple of decades, your site can grow with it - making your site an authority on all things Afghan. If you don't do it, someone else will and you'll be kicking yourself in a few years time when they're rolling in the cash and influence.
But if you do, do it and persevere. You'll have a sizable and valuable asset with lots of traffic in no time. Once you get the traffic, you will get ideas on how to monetize it. From selling banner ads to flogging your own products.
Don't let anyone discourage you. You can do it! So get to work and pump that content out buddy!
