So i was wondering how to get the jobs ? Im web designer and i wanted to ask you guys, how you do it ? U make a website than rank it for "Web Design" or?

Probably hard to rank for web design.
- I think best to start in yoru city, try and rank for your city.
- Do some work off freelance site to build a base, build a portfolio.
- Do some discount work for local comanies and make sure they let you put a text link on their page.

After that, most of your work will come from word of mouth.

Since my country sux can i rank for some britain city for web design ? Or usa city

was going to ask your location....can I?

Personally, the vast majority of my services are provided to compaines that I meet in person.

There's so much competition online, it's a pain for me to get clients whilst still charging enough to make it worth my time. So essentially, I just network my ass off all the time.

In a bar, eating dinner, at the shops etc. I've met more clients though day to day life than I have from linkedin or the web! Not that I do a lot of design work, TBH i'll take the chance if it's there but most of the time I'm busy with other things.

I agree with the above post!

I get maybe 1-2 web design contracts a month (I freelance in my spare time afterwork) and it all comes from word of mouth.

Come to think of it I haven't ever gotten a client through just my website.

Start with your family and friends - it's easy enough to put out a few feelers via email - chances are at LEAST 1 person needs a website of some sort.

Charge them a nice cheap fee - if it's your first site it's gonna suck anyway :)

My freelance work started as follows:

First site: For a sister of a friend - owns a gym
Second Site: Referral from first site
Third Site: Referral from family member
Fourth - Eighth Site: Done while employed full time as web designer for a law firm.
Eighth + : All referrals from prior clients!

The more pages you have in your portfolio the more you can charge as well. Once you have a good portfolio built finding clients becomes a lot easier.

I've also had some luck finding clients on Craigslist - lots of folks looking for web design there. Just send over your portfolio and pray :)

Never give up. Make a site. Promote via social networks. Work it through keywords with low search competition.

Show me your portfolio. I'm interested- I need a custom splash page and wordpress theme.

Stand at the side of the road holding up a sign that says "Will do web design 4 food".

Works like a charm every time.

You should post your portfolio on some boards, look offers on freelancer ect ...

Why not post offer on local newspaper, or go to the local companies and say "hello, i can make a website to you". (99% of people are newbies in webmastering and like to see a profesional in real life before make a deal)

Dear just make a cool portfolio join some freelance sites and also post a thread on BHW "want to sell service" section and check hire freelancer section regularly..
