This is not what a SIM swap looks like. No need to spook the guy. If it was a SIM swap he would have lost mobile signal completely.

Its just someone putting his number into whatsapp and failing to get it verified. Probably some dumbasss who doesnt know their own number. Like I said above he needs to register his number and verify it so they get told the number is already taken.

I've fallen victim to sim swap and I did not lose my signal at all. At least I didn't notice.

Chances are you didnt notice at first. A sim swap attack is just convincing the mobile carrier that you have lost your sim card and need to activate a new one. That process will disable the id in the old sim card to activate the new one. So a sim swap will always drop the network, if you are connected over wifi calling there could be a bigger delay before it dropped but it would still stop after a while. Mobile carriers have shit support this should not be possible so easily.

There is sim cloning that may or may not drop the the network on the phone but someone would need physical access to the sim card to do that

I really doubt @Julzwriter has been cloned especially as he says its a number hes not used on whatsapp. Just someone trying and failing to register with their number. Register the number with whatapp, delete the account and delete the app should solve it.

But OP said that the person even set a profile picture so they have to be verified to do that right?

you probably have malware installed in your system. Try to use the sim card on another device just to be sure

You can set a profile picture while you wait for the sms code to arrive afaik

go to the company which it's providing you that number and ask them to deactivate sim for 1 week and try to contact that number and ask him to sign out if he refused tell him that you will run a bot report for his number which can make him lose this number in the same day

I would recommend that you report it to Whatsapp as soon as possible
