Hey all. I've recently cut ties with an seo company to do the building myself.

However he has told me that there are approx 50 private network back links from pr2 to pr6 that are hidden from ahrefs etc which will slowly drop off in a couple of months.

Is there anyway of finding them?

How can you clean up the back links when you can't see them? Can't see anything in moz etc.

Ahrefs is not the only link profiling service out there. Moz is good only for metrics and crappiest when it comes to backlinks. Have you tried majesticseo? What about the seoprofiler and webmeup? If you can't find it in any of these service, I'm sure it'll show up in GWMT.
 
Having never dealt with an SEO provider before I can only guess but as an ex sales exec myself it sounds like typical sales bullshit to prevent a client from leaving.

Ask for proof of these backlinks.
 
i don't think you will fix it yourself, you need to talk to seo specialist

If the SEO company was selling rankings and not links, as I do when I do when I do boutique SEO, he won't show the links as that will reveal part of his process.

If he is selling links though that is a different dog.

Odds are there are PR links in the backlinking infrastruture that the SEO service had/has in place though as that is not an uncommon strategy in many instances.

Precisely why I said I've never dealt with an SEO company. I was just guessing based on sales crap that I and my colleagues would tell clients to prevent losing a sale. May be true, could still be bullshit.
 
Thanks Sturose. This was the first thing i thought of when he said about the links as I couldn't see them in any service so far. Will check the ones mentioned above also. Thanks guys.

He said "he doesn't even know where they are" in this private network he has paid to put them in.

Had a look at linking domains in Google Webmaster Tools and a few links I have made appear already. Surely the private links would too as they obviously wouldn't block Google.

It's really common practice to hide PR links from their private blog networks from back link checkers. And if the company is professional there should be no way of finding it unless they sent you a report.

The reason for this is simple. It's to protect you and other customer's interest. If your competitor had a tool like ahrefs they could easily report the blog network to google and jeopardise everyone.
 
Wouldn't webmaster tools show them though. Google has to index them for them to have the link juice after all?

Not necessarily. This is a standard SEO sales tactic, but in most cases it's true. They build high PR links and take them down if the client cancels.
 
Even if you succeed in finding the backlinks, what would you do with them since you have no control over the sites they were placed on? Disavow them?

Instead of wasting your time trying to find out where the links were placed, start building your own high PR links gradually so that they would slowly replace the ones falling off.
 
These links should show up in your Webmaster Tools if you are the owner of the site.

It sounds like though that you were rented links, and they will be taken down anyway without you doing anything.
 
Thanks for the reply. Already building my own links. I didn't want to disavow them i just wanted to know if I'd suffer a big hit in rankings in a couple of months.
