How Does HostGator Affiliation Work?

Got 4 people making accounts under my affiliate code, and got only 1 "accepted". They also wrote in their homepage that the payout is $50 (meaning 1 lead), once I got the $50 approved in my account, they've told me it's $100 but they forgot to change the homepage, and that's lol, so I just stopped promoting hosting companies.

I just want to post something: I signed up a friend through my affiliate link (he signed from his computer and paid with its details), he keeps using the package for more than a year till this day, no referrals on my hostgator statistics.

I have a few banners on some niche-relevant sites with decent traffic, no sale to this day, so this was the cause they did not count my signups f biatch.

Yeah, they shaved me $50(i generated a legal sale.. They kept saying that they have sent my payment, but they never did..).. That's not too much, but they shave for sure...
I just want to warn you, they shave too much.

A few members have mentioned that HG are well known for shaving.

Can anyone provider any more insight/relevant information to that and how they arrived at that conclusion please?

I was thinking about working with them

I tired it once, with some of my clients. I gave them my affiliate link, and was sure they signed up under it BUT was never paid from them (yes they have been using it for more than a month)

There are several criteria for a sale to be credited. Like the likelihood of the client to stay hosting with them should be high enough. Simply put, if the client pays $4 per month and stays for 4 months, is it really fair that they pay you $50 and they make a loss of $34, not to mention server costs? Another thing is that the client's site should be active and used for business, HG won't credit the sale if the site is default installation of wp or has no real content. It translates to them that the client is not intending to build on a business and is not likely to pay the next invoice. The client may also have had an account with them before and is trying to save more by creating a new account to use a coupon. I doubt they shave that hard as people claim, just read the terms and you'll be fine...

Also, common sense. If you get 10 sales and ALL of them are of the least costly package then there is something suspicious about it. Just think about it as a business owner.

Then they should adjust their terms and commissions to credit smaller amounts for smaller orders, a lead is still a lead. While an affiliate increase their recognition in the way he can, even with weak sales etc.. I believe its not fair at all to get nothing in exchange.

but you can't keep on saying "I have paid you", when you didn't... what about that?

That's something that I can't judge about for the moment. I know absolutely nothing about what happened, but if you really think that you've been misconducted and cheated then open a thread here with the full details, expose them with other words.

I might still have their email in my inbox. I don't normally blame people for things that they don't do. I generated 2 sales in a month from one of my blogs (I just tried them for a change). They later said one of them could not verify the credit card, so they refused that sale. The other one remained there as a valid one, for 3-4 months( can't remember exactly) and one day I opened the account to see that my payment got paid lol. I had my paypal account listed there (which has got banned now..another group of losers- paypal). I had nothing inside my paypal account... I emailed them alteast 3 times and they kept on saying that there must have been some technical problem and they are sending my payment again (LOL, that's a lame excuse).. I got frustrated and I stopped emailing them after that.

I repeat, I did not do anything wrong. In fact, this happened when I started out with IM and $50 would have been a lot for me back then. Don't you think they shaved me?

Seeing as there's a ridiculous amounts of bad testimonials from HG payouts and I haven't heard a single good thing yet, I think I'd rather not risk trying to go into this...

Do anyone have any GOOD experience with any of the hosting affiliate companies?

Sorry, I am not into CJ but I have never heard people saying GD cheated them. HG on the other hand shaves for sure..

Thanks g0g0l,

As scrapefox said I had registered for dream host and I will promote it, Will update the experience here :)

Hi guys, if you are thinking of promoting hosting affiliate, go and register with CJ, they have virtually all the hosting companies available and you can choose the ones you like to promote. For hostgator, you are prob right they are tight, they charged back $100 off me because apparently it was a returning customer - fuckers didnt know the reason that customer joint HG because i recommended them...

You bring affiliate, they pay you. But there are 2 downsides of this story.
1. First of all they have 60 days clearance time. Meaning you working for free first 2 months.
2. Second of all if something goes wrong you won't get your cash.

Instead of this one, just create your own hosting company and charge people with the same fee.

I am with them from 5 months yes they shave a lot i bring 80 sales but only 16 accepted. i know about 10-15 were really fake but all others were legit.

Yeah, When we make a sale HG fuckers they even credit the sale on my account, Once I make the sale, I will contact CJ then they will say contact HG thru CJ then I will sent them the registered details from my client, but the HG wont make any response they just ignore, I made around 7 sales and none of the commissions get credited but still the referred persons are actively paying the hosting bills
