How Does HostGator Affiliation Work?

Just wondering, is there any requirements to how HostGator affiliation pays out? I'm not really quite sure how it works.

Can anybody answer these questions please?

- Is there a threshold of payouts?
- How often do they pay out?
- Is there a requirement of the package the person purchases using your coupon?

To specify the last question...

For example, if you were to use the $10 off coupon and the person used it (with completely legitimate information), would you still get paid the $50 referral even if they only purchased hosting for one month?

If somebody can clear this up for me, it would be greatly appreciated :)

I hear that, but I'm also considering DreamHosting as well (I believe that's what the company was called). I'm just wondering how HostGator affiliation works because I figured that generally most of these types of hosting companies work the same way :P
 
Use their offer with commission junction. I made some good money with it.
 
They will not pay if the host cancels after one month. They have to stay for at least 60 days and it takes 90 days to get paid. It does not matter which plan they buy but they do shave a lot.

Commission Junction has an offer that partners with host gator and if you get someone to buy any hosting plan through your generated link from your CJ account, you get $100. They do shave, but so does every affiliate network. The affiliate network that has shaved the most in my opinion is Max Bounty.
 
If you're going to want a long term affiliate earning with hg or anyone for that matter, trying to find ways to work the system in that manner is not going to work.

What you're thinking has been thought of before and I'm sure they have those covered under the terms.


The best way to any residual and longterm affiliate partnership is to find the best ways to get the the job done while still complying to the TOS.

Yeah, I already figured that which is why I had to ask just to be sure. I figured it wouldn't really work that way or else it would just be retarded.

Also, to all the other posts, thanks for the reply! :D

I'm a little surprised though that HostGator takes so long to pay out, that sounds kind of annoying to wait 3 months to get paid...
 
I'm not an expert with HG, but I believe it their reasoning is "chargebacks".

But they also probably want to make sure that the created account will last.

I'm not really sure how one could charge-back a hosting account other than claiming that there was un-authorized payment on hosting account which you will have to manage daily and everything.

I figure that they would do so because if they charge something like $6/month for their baby plan (which I believe is most commonly used) and they're paying out $50/referral at the minimum, I figured they would want to make sure their referral clients stay.
 
I have them as a hosting company, I quickly looked over their affiliate program a while ago, but I remember them having something where the new member can cancel their account after a certain amount of days and get their money back.
 
The threshold for payout is 2 actives and they payout every month but there is a 2 month lag.

The answer to your last question is no, there is no requirement for the package the person purchases. But it will have to remain active for two months for it to be active.

I see some people are recommending that you use commission junction, but there are some drawbacks. With commission junction, you do not get your own unique coupon code, so it makes it harder to convert. And if somebody were to use your link and then use a coupon code at checkout, you would not receive credit because coupons over-rule clicks.
Furthermore, with CJ you can only get $100 per lead. If you are using Hostgator and you get more than 21 commissions, you will get $125 per lead. If you get more then 25+ active commissions for three month with Hostgator, you can contact them and they will raise it to $150.

Can anyone provider any more insight/relevant information to that and how they arrived at that conclusion please?

From what I hear, people mostly offer free website services in exchange for use of their coupon or a related method where a client tells the person that they have used their coupon. Afterwards, people claim that HG never counted that commission even though they have their client's proof.
 
I had done around 5-7 sales with CJ, promoting hostgator.. I make my clients to signup via my referral link but, none of the commissions are credited automatically, I always wanted to contact HG and then wait for more than 10 days to get a reply from them, Also I made around 7 sales but I got only 2 got credited and later after a month it was also removed from my account, So finally I made 7 sales and got no commissions credited, I don't recommend them, its really frustrating
