How do you write a reddit thread and post to promote indirectly?

So I've used some reddit services here on BHW that puts my thread to page one.
However the posts were still removed by moderators shortly as they detected promotion.

For the pros here, how do you go about making your posts indirect but slipping in your business link?

it probably depends on the niche, but for the posts I've been involved with (tech niche), the only way I got promotion through was to write text posts with all the info in them, and only use my URL as a link at the end if people wanted to read more.

Basically, you have to provide value with your actual post, not just add a link.

If you are doing porn promotion then watermarked some gif or img and post the imgur link

Adding a link into the comments section can work pretty well, too. Mainly as a way to get a backlink though and not as much for traffic.

Yeah that's a good twist. Also adding the link as a comment a bit later on, once the post has traction.

Reddit is strict, if there's something about your post the first thing they do is check your history, if there's anything, tiny, that can raise suspicion you will get reported and bad comments.

So you may want to start posting a lot on the topic/subreddit of your interest before making a post with the link

Yes, promote your article only. Do not promote your product on Reddit.

Mods may delete your post.

You can create your subreddit, you are mod, you can do anything ^^

It has to be non-obvious af. Reddit can smell promotion very easily.

You have to be subtle about it.

As others have said, Reddit is a pretty ravenous community when it comes to this kind of thing. I have seen some comment "bait-and-switch" type stuff where a legitimate comment will get a couple thousand upvotes then the user edits the comment to put in a aff. link / promotion link. Not sure how well that works but it was interesting nonetheless.

I've had fantastic success by doing what @seocrab said. Essentially you should come across like you're trying to help the community. There's rules about self promotion on Reddit as a whole, but some subs are even stricter. I've also been able to get a lot more leniency by a) being up front that whatever link you're posting or adding into a text post is your website (reddit loves transparency) and b) asking mods ahead of time if something is okay or not okay. You can kind of figure out where the gray area is from there.

Also, I have a ton of reddit accounts that I've made that I've organically boosted to be able to post links to pretty much anywhere, so I will sometimes post my content across various subs using different accounts. Just kind of add a veil to what's going on.

Browse it and see how usually posts look like. Keep in mind that some subreddits are stricter than others.

Once you do that, you will get a sense of what is a 'decent' post that will stick.

Ohh really good point - if you don't know how Reddit works you won't be able to game the system. Reddit can be a very fickle community.
