I have been out of SEO scenario for some time. I want to buy DOMAINS for PBN with clean backlink profile in specific niches.

Which tools and methods are working correctly (free to use) to ensure that i can book domains with clean backlink profile/ non spammy domains?

The truth is that you cannot do it for free. You need Ahrefs account - no one else (but Google obviously) is even close to their index so if you want to be relatively sure that the domains are clean there is no other way. Go for group buys - they kind of suck nowadays, but for light use are OKish.

yes try to get a cheap subscription to ahrefs to get a convenient view of a domain's links; don't know any reliable free service for that, but I am willing to learn.

If you want accurate data forget about Free word.

Free methods are a thing of the past, you need ahrefs or majestic to be able to do anything nowadays.

Its all about checking backlinks, try moz out for it, you can dwnload top 1000 with api I THINK.

There's no tool for this. There are some that can filter out the most spammiest of the domains, @drstew has one, but in the end, it all has to be done manually.

you can type:

"yourdomain.com" -site:yourdomain.com

in google to see all your indexed backlinks

buying them from sellers here on bhw.
you it youself? you will burn 1k and still might not learn from it.

Well, else you can always do some reconsiderations ;)

Expireddomains.net
Ahrefs.com
Moz.com
archive.org

(in that order)

I do manual checkup with ahrefs, majestic, archive.org, screenshots.com, google... + few more seo tools but I have subscriptions, I guess it's very limited without.

i check domain snapshots on sites like webarchvie and I also check content indexed from this site in Google. I also look when were the last DNS changes

I many times got fooled by looking on recent links... Its often really big spam there showing on ahrefs (including anchors) but tbh domain is still not penalised (so its clean) and that spam was made by some kind of "bots", not by the previous site owners

Sorry to inform you, but if the domain have algorithm penalty is still in the index, but its not "clean", nor there is message in webmaster tools console.. just the domain is not ranking as should rank. So you are gambling here with such domains.

oh really? Well I've never meet one that would be penalised but message wouldnt appear in WMT. My last 5 domains with 20rd+ (and some authority links) (I think one might be 100RD+ if I remember well) I bought this way are clean. Sure theres never 100% chance, but honestly i love picking domains for pbn now, and before I hated it.

Ahrefs is the BEST tool you can use to accurate data, nothing is more helpfull than Ahrefs.

You have to take a look at the history, does the content is already used for PBN, repurposed before?

Also, Majestic can be helpfull too. You have to check the Referring domains in comparing with the referring IP's, this is the MOST important part, the more RD, and R ip's are close together, the more links are good, and clean.

Check the previous pages as well, by using Moz or Ahrefs, to make sure that the domain is clean or not, since probably when you check the Archive history, you'll see that the domain never repurposed before, but when you check its previous pages, you'll see that it was repurposed before.
You have to check the domain names manually.

There are a LOT of things you have to take into consideration to make sure you get a 100% clean domain name.

Just forget about another nice point, if the domain is not indexed, be carefull, sometimes when you submit the url on Google, it will not be indexed forever, or sometimes it may takes weeks and months. So always go with indexed domains, don't go with non indexed ones until you MASTER the game.

There is difference between manual penalty (for the whole domain or partial) that you see in WMT and algorithm penalty which you have no way to check just can guess by the ranking of the website. For example old auctioned domain rank for long tail keywords (eg: the H1 tag of the article) at page 8. Clearly something is wrong there as you are using something like "How to use iPad to check the pressure of your tires" - the first 7 pages are absolutely irrelevant, yet they beat your own article.
