I remember reading a book several years ago entitled something like 100 Things to Buy Before You Die. Catchy title, but it had a deeper point: Sometimes little things can make a big difference. For instance, they mentioned buying plush, x-large bath towels...seems trivial until you remember how nice it was that one time when you stayed at the Hilton and used a real bath towel, and how you've been using that raggedy old, thin version for a couple years now. Little things.

So, I'm wondering, we all spend HOURS in front of a computer, and perhaps we grow a bit anti-social because we're improving/building/tweaking our sites or our client's sites all the time (4hr workweek? Yeah, right!), and it is possible, at the end of the day, to look in the mirror and see someone who needs to cheer up a bit, step away from the computer, exercise, have a good meal, and head to the mall to pick up something as a treat for all those hours of hard work. I know some will be tempted to make a cynical, back-handed comment like 'I reinvest back into the business' or 'I don't spend money on liabilities' etc...but the thread isn't about being snarky or showing how savvy you are with personal finance (trust me, I know all this stuff)...it is a light-hearted thread about what you have purchased as a treat.

My latest:
  • 100ml Eau de Lierre
  • edt_new_color_resize_eau_de_lierre.jpg
  • 100% custom tailored dress pants made with Hugo Boss wool cloth...took 2 fittings to get it right, but they are perfect.
  • These black, Ferragamo loafers
  • _8002341.jpg
  • Burberry eyewear (I look like Clark Kent)
    Burberry_BE2086_3001_Angle.jpg
  • Next purchase will probably be a 2010-2011 BMW 3 Series convertible...(can't justify to my retirement plans/kid's college fund paying for anything newer)
  • A 3 day vacation in a beachfront house on Rawa Island...that was bliss!
  • Oh, bought about 1/2 dozen custom shirts while in Shanghai a few months ago; very reasonably priced and they fit perfectly.

Anyway, these are little luxuries that I appreciate...yeah, I know, it isn't all about how much money you have or what toys you can buy, but honestly, I don't want to be the raggedy towel guy either. So, what's your story?

You are right. Working in front of computer 5-6 hours per day makes you anti-social and a machine. Yesterday I thought about it and have made a time table. So Yesterday I went out and bought 2 dozen bananas, 2 KG mangoes and 2 liter pepsi. All this cost me less than $5 because I live in a 3rd world country.

I did this for me.

When things are going well or I've outsourced a lot of the work I spend an entire day power gaming through an immersive game (currently Mass Effect 3). Amazon is another great source of random gifts to myself. I recently bought every one of Jack White's albums and some metal that melts when you hold it in your hand.

For me it would have to be clothes and shoes. Cheap and makes you feel good knowing you got on something fresh and new.

Health & Body Care:

- I pretty much a keep a 3 month supply on hand of: multi-vitamins, creatine, garlic oil pills, fish oil pills, sterol complex, silk amino acids, BCC Amino Acids... I could keep going, you get the idea.

This soap is amazing, expensive, but so worth it...

This is a very refreshing product to use, works amazing.

In terms of food:
- I pretty much eat whatever I want, don't have budget per-say. Sometimes ultra healthy, sometimes a McDonalds hamburger lol... Really, it's whatever I'm in the mood for.

Computing equipment:
- Pretty much have decked out everything. Solid state hard drives, Large Sata Drives for file backups, Death Stalker Ultimate keyboard, Razer Naga Mouse, and Razer Mouse Pad, High end Intel processors, multiple monitors, high end Nvidia card.

Kindle, Smart Phone, Ipod...

A few laptops...

Here's one of my PC's stats:
pc-stats.png

- I have 3 internet connections, although I only really use 2 of them.

Other luxury items:

Prada Shades, couldn't find a pic of mine on the web, but a pair like this, around the same price:

Zenga Pants (have shirts too, and burberry) --- will be expanding my wardrobe soon.

Some of the usual luxury things...
Gold & Diamonds Jewelry, etc.

---
Not trying to be a dick or obnoxious about things, but I live mostly in luxury now a days... I could list more, but I think I posted enough, maybe too much even, idk.

Mangoes make me happy! A relative just brought us a box of these uber-amazing magnoes from India (not sure what the brand is but people were 'ooh-ing and ahh-ing') anyway, they tasted like mango mixed with a hint of coconut...I didn't even cut them up properly, but stood over the kitchen sink eating them like a starving man...

Yeah...and nothing like a new, crisp white shirt to make you look and feel like a million bucks!

Yeah dude, Aveda makes some top-quality stuff....my wife got me hooked on it. I haven't tried the soap, though. I like their shampoo and I steal my wife's hair moisturizer thing (I swim a lot and my hair turns to straw otherwise). Good call.

No amount of money is worth sacrificing your personal health so I have made many purchases related to this. This has to be my favorite tho:

Omega-800-Juicer-110v-white.jpg

Throw in 1 green apple, 4 pieces of celery, 3 carrots, 1 cucumber, 1 zucchini/squash, some broccoli, some leafy greens, squeeze a lemon and you're good. Also only buy 100% organic and preferably locally grown.

I have already got that. A good investment.

I have to smoke a good cigar at least twice a week. I'm still kind of in the learning stage of figuring out what cigars best suit me but there hasn't been a whole lot that I've smoked that I didn't like. A really fresh coffee and a cigar sitting on my back patio does it for me. Average price of my cigars is about $15 per stick which isn't too bad.

I travel once a year to buy a tailored suit. I remember the first time I bought a suit it was for $900 at this place called Joseph A Bank or something. It was a total fucking rip off but at the time, I thought I was the shit. It was even "tailored" after I bought it. It wasn't until I traveled to New Dehli to Vaish at Rivoli and got a couple very nice suits made for $1100 (it was $900 USD but I gave an extra $200 per suit) now I order at least one a year because the quality is awesome. I recommend everyone get a custom tailored bespoke suit at least once in their life.

I spend a lot of money on my computer which is kind of for business and kind of for pleasure. My most recent purchase was my new 27" IPS monitor (middle monitor).
photo.jpgI just realized that is a HORRIBLE picture. iPhone 4 will only take you so far :P.

And I also treat myself with alcohol (notice the gin + tonic to the left of the keyboard). :). I probably spend most money when I'm out with friends.

I just like to buy Pizza Hut hot wings with the money I get. I really don't do IM to buy a ton of stuff but to just for the experiences and meeting people.

hey bro is that asus mx279h ..?? hows this monitor ... ?? worth the money or not ...

Recently I bought a website with a lot of reviews.

Today someone is sending me a pair of Cazal sunglasses, a pair of sneakers and two pairs of Monster earbuds to review... If this continues, companies will pay for my treats in the future :D

I really enjoy dental floss gadgets that I use to clean my teeth when behind the pc. Good food is a must. Exercise/sports is also an area that always needs attention.
