I've always focused on Google rankings and with this my Yahoo and Bing rankings have always done ok but i've never focused on Yahoo or Bing specifically. With the new penguin update i want to minimise my risk by ensuring i'm still up their in the Yahoo and Bing rankings while i try and get my head around penguin. Obviously i'm not looking for a complete blue print, but what are the main differences between link cycles that focus on Yahoo and Bing compared to Google? Are any factors more relevant?

Thanks but I am thinking in terms of a particular site rather than a new one so obviously i can't change the domain. I was thinking perhaps Yahoo or Bing favoured a particular type of link e.g. web 2.0, articles, social bookmarks etc.??

I think when you target for google, you are also targeting bing and yahoo. I don't specially targeting them as they have very little traffic.

I didn't focus on Bing or Yahoo as Google has been my primary concern always now and will be. However, even if some of the methods can work with Yahoo or Bing, the may not be suited with Big G. Thus, changing the focus can also get reverse effect.

Here are a couple of factors that Yahoo/Bing consider far far more than Google:

    1. Are you using an EMD?
    2. How many links do you have matching the anchor text of the keyword you are trying to rank for?

For Yahoo/Bing you can register/buy an EMD, send 100k xrumer all with 2-3 anchors (and having most of it be your money keyword), do something similar with a low quality blog comment list and you can get some pretty good and stable rankings off of that alone.

I would of course still recommend going after some higher quality links (2.0s, blog networks, etc.) The good thing though is that Yahoo/Bing never punish you for links so you can go overboard.

They also have a very very sizable EMD bonus.

With all that being said, no matter what you do, it will take you longer to rank in Yahoo/Bing simply because they crawl links slower. So don't be discouraged if it takes you 45 days to rank in Yahoo/Bing when it would usually take you a couple weeks to do the same thing in Google. Your rankings will almost definitely come, and the great thing is once they come you really don't have to worry about then getting slapped or deindexed.

Bing's good for high traffic terms, the entertainment industry works well. They have harder filters for links so don't spam like crazy, they tie it into social signals so developing a Facebook page linkng it all up and getting likes on it and your site is a good plan, whatever you do make sure you provide both signals, if you have links and no social sharing you're asking for trouble. In terms of linking, they tend to swing towards link quantity over link quality.

Well-done you focus on Google as well yahoo and bing. For many SE's target, content is very important so content must be unique. For yahoo traffic, you should be use yahoo answer and check out this ehow.com/how_4589567_increase-website-traffic-using-yahoo.html and bing; firstly add your site webmaster tool , check out this webupon.com/search-engines/how-to-increase-your-traffic-from-bing

Just take out Microsoft ads. I'm getting more sales with those than I ever did with google ads. Google ads are tuna fish and bing ads are caviar. I read many times that people who use bing are a more upscale group than those who use google, and I'm seeing the same thing now that I am running ads on bing.

Google dominates the search market, they control 82%, I'd just focus on Google, if Google likes you site, Yahoo and Bing should too.

You realize google actually controls 67%, with only 8-12% market share in Asia right?

I usually don't try to target it, but my Bing + Yahoo rankings are usually much higher for sites that I use a lot of social bookmarks. I've had sites go from no where to top 20 on yahoo and bing just by using social bookmarks.

    from search engine watch:
    1. How does your search engine treat the No Follow attribute?

    • Google : The Googlebot does not follow that link.
    • Yahoo : If we find a link we make it available to our algorithms to find new content, whether it has a ‘no follow' attribute or not. However, if the ‘no follow' attribute is present, it means that no attribution is given to the target from the source of the link.

    and ...
Ask (search) : We have never officially supported No Follow, so your questions don't apply to our crawler/ranking.
