How do you promote a good quality blogpost?

Hi all,

I am looking for some feedback on which channels others promote their blogs posts through, and by which means. I have made this post so that some ideas can be shared, and shortcuts can be made aware (if there are any)

I'll start, after publishing my blogpost, I usually ping it firstly using pingomatic (or similar web tool), then I submit to Facebook manually, tweet on Twitter manually, Post on Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit - all manually.

Are there other (and even better?) places I should be posting my new blog post to? Are there easier and even automated ways to mass post a new blog post - so that valuable time can be used up elsewhere.

I really like using Care2News for anything which potentially has a social slant.
I never really get massive responses but you do get targeted visitors from it (another bonus is you can appear like a genuine user by setting up a few google alerts and posting that as well to pad out your submisions).

Other than that I generally use stumbleupon, youbundle and Blink! I also like using Zimbio from time to time, because if you can get your article on the front of a popular zine its free traffic! I'm always a bit hesitant to go overboard on it though

Oh, worth mentioning that part of the reason I use Care2News, Stumble Upon, YouBundle and Blink! is you can drag the submision button onto the firefox tool bar, so all you need to do is click a few buttons and enter the relevant details.

Are the sites you mentioned good for traffic, viral spreading, backlinks - or all?

Care2 is good for traffic (you also earn credits which you can use to make charitable donations to worthy causes which is great as far as Im concerned!), the others are good for backlinks, stumbleupon has the potential for traffic, but it's pretty much entirely random what site people end up on.

As far as I know all of these are do follow links as well, but 9/10 you wont get a very large page rank off them.

Yes, I would go with "inspiration", social bookmaking is the best place to promote blog post on a daily base. Sites such as stumble upon, Dzone, delicious, digg gives a good traffic if we contribute on a regular base in these sites.

Make 4 list of all your keywords where they're written in different ways,

This is going to save you a HELL of a long time, because 90% of the time you're just going to be pasting one of those in

Promoting of a good quality blogpost is a tricky as well as a challenging task, make sure you are using keywords in an innovative manner in order to make them attractive as this will help alot in increasing the traffic too...

I've heard a lot of good things about Reddit driving thousands of visitors within 24 hours to good blog posts. However, I don't want to come off as to spammy. Is there any other obvious methods?

you are going to need social networking coverage and a little creativity (humor etc.) to go viral. Other than youtube + ppc or FB ads are a way to go.

Really good advice from everyone Thanks! The social bookmaking is a great way to get started. Create a pinboard for your blog and pin every post, write a news article about your blog and post it to a 2.0 website.

WTF? Is this some sort of spun forum post?

Reddit's been a pretty good one for me. I pull in a fair few hundered views a day for a couple of days when I post a link to one of my pages.

Try to make the title not spammy though. Try to invoke some comments. Also to appear not spammy, post a few other links to other things, but not at the same time as your money post.

Redditer's seem to be quite community orientated and don't like spam. I've had some rude comments both on my site and on the Reddit post when getting caught doing self promotion!
