How do you know when you have a premium domain name?

How do you know when you have a premium / rare domain name?
Lets say the .com of a domain name is premium but you have the local version like .us.
Could that make the .us domain name a premium one as well?

No most of the times other endings than .com are worthless. Maybe if it's some 4-5 letters or shorter .us domain it might me worth something

I see, thanks for this. But let's say I bought a local domain then a singer becomes famous in the local area where I bought the domain. What could happen?
