For me the first positive signs are better indexing more keywords starting to rank and impressions increasing even before traffic grows If those metrics keep improving I know the strategy is moving in the right direction Rankings and clicks usually follow with a bit more and consistency.

I usually look at impressions first. If they are slowly going up,I take that as a good sign, even if the traffic has not changed much yet.
I look at indexing and impressions in GSC before rankings appear, if new pages start getting impressions for more queries that would be the first green flag usually.
Next sign is movement on long tail keywords . If it happens means the strategy is working.

Early signs are usually small improvemenst first like pages starting to get impressions for more keywords in search console or rankings moving from nowhere into page 2 or low page 1. Even before traffic grows then those signals usually show the strategy is heading in the right direction.
Fast indexing is always encouraging

Early signs that SEO is working usually show up before rankings move like improved impression in GSC, more pages getting indexed and keywords starting to appear for low positions. I also look at whether internal pages are getting more crawl activity and if engagement signals like time on page or CTR are slowly improving. These small signals usually comes first before real traffic growth kicks in.

i don't judge a strategy by rankings alone if impressions crawl activity and user engagement are all moving in the right direction i normally stick with the plan and give it more time

I usually look for more pages getting indexed, keywords slowly moving up and impressions increasing in Google Search Console. Even if traffic hasn't started yet, those are good signs that the SEO work is moving in the right direction.

Internal pages start getting indexed together. When Google begins discovering more of your site structure, it usually means stronger crawling patterns.
People usually check traffic earlierr because what needs to be checked in situation is not ranking but the expansion of keywords. The very moment you start seeing a lot of expansion of your keywords in Google Search Console on page 2 or page 3, that means Ggl is checking the relevancy of your conntent.
Consistency in your weekly expansion of keywords along with indexing sped is your sign of sucess.
impressions and clicks in GSC are my first signal. if impressions are climbing even with rankings hovering around pos 8-15 thats a sign your content is getting indexed properly. i also watch for crawl frequency going up in logs - goolge visiting more often is a good early indicater before any visible ranking movement
