Could anyone pm me about this. I have a sports blog and would like to know how to utilize the keyword planner with my certain blog.
 
Easy just use GKP and make sure you find keywords that are low in competition and have high search volume.

Generally Speaking you want to find keywords that are highly relevant to your website, are high in popularity and commercial intent, but low in competition. And if you are using PPC low ad cost. The challenge is that the most profitable keywords(High Popularity and High Commercial Intent) are usually also the most Competitive and have the highest Ad costs.
 
Does not really matter what you use to search for your keywords as long as you know what you are looking at when you finally search for the keywords. Tools do not make good keywords and keyword strategy is only as good as the person looking at the results.

I think the best way would be to scan your competitors' backlinks and see what anchors they are using for their backlinks the most. Tools like ahref, ibacklinkpro etc can help you with that.

I personally use ultimate niche finder to analyze a few thousand keywords. From there I generally look for keywords that are below medium competition and filter out anything below ~1000 (depends) monthly searches. I always double check the top 3 results with ahrefs, majesticseo and open site explorer.

I hate doing keyword research because its something I have to do every day. This process makes it less painful. I will always save other golden keywords for later use as well.

As for Google Planner, it is a great keyword research tool, however, it can't provide you with all data you need to find the most traffic productive keywords.

What I recommend you to do is to carry out some manual research. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do that:

Exactly. Pretty much what any modern keyword tool these days does for you automatically.
 
I use Google Keyword Planner and Google Trends as well. Sometimes I like to use Market Samurai and Traffic Travis to check the competition and I just sniff around on Google and then I hit ahrefs.
 
what if i just use keyword planner to find the keywords and just look at a couple of video guides on how to do that?
 
I use ultimate niche finder and long tail pro to find my keywords. Since I am still learning, I decide keyword I think is easy and put them in UNF to confirm. If it confirms as easy or very easy, I use it.

But in most cases low competition sites are associated with:
-0 or forum backlinks,
- forums in top 10,
-yahoo answers
-young sites
-squidoo etc with low backlink comp
 
The easiest way of doing keyword research is:
1. put in your root keyword.
2. Click Download to Download all in a CSV file
3. Clear those have too low MS and too low CPC
4. Run it through Scrapebox competition checker
5. Vlookup the data from scrapebox to your original CSV file.
6. start checking keywords with low competition by using ahrefs to check if its competition is low.
7. Rank!
 
I generally get the a root keyword , put it in GKP to get some good keywords ~1000 MS and low compettion.
I search the keywords in google with "KW" to get the exact competitors then another search with intitle wild card to check if there are sites targeting the same keywords if everything seems good I start to RANK !

And always do not forget that you have to get unique content this will help you a lot with ranking !
 
Yeah, Google Keyword Planner and Google trends help a bit. Also just decide what you would search for if you were searching for the article you want to write.
