How do you deal with the skepticism?

I'm sure a lot of you have friends and family members who are skeptical to the whole IM thing.
Especially one of my friends is very skeptical to what I'm doing. He's says things like "I'm sure you can make some pocket money, but there's no way you make a living online" and "Only real jobs pay off".

No matter what you tell them, or what proof you have, they choose to be blind. So I want to know, how have you people, especially those who actually make a living online, dealt with this in the past (before making bank)?

I kinda wish I had kept it to myself until I made the big money, but whatever. It's gonna be fun when I prove my friend wrong, which may take a while but still

Totally know how that feels. Here is what I use, feel free to use it next time. I say one of the following depending on the situation. I no longer work online but I did when I was a student

1. I get that it's something you're not acquainted with, some people who work in sales, work in a building selling for commission I just do it online. As technology progresses so do jobs, uber the world's largest taxi firm, does not have any taxis themselves, instagram the world's largest photo sharing site does not own any cameras either.

To which they either agree or say " but you get no job security " to which I reply with " LOL you think your job is safe? in 10 years almost all jobs done by humans will be automated and done by artificial intelligence or ad hoc machines, there are already diagnostic machines linked to cloud computing databases which diagnose health issues far better than any doctors, we used to have elevator operators, now we just have elevators. "

You can also say " Many people do things as hobbies, football, photography, but some people do them professionally, the same is true with the internet. Even sluts make money when their hobby turns into something professional, they become prostitutes lol.

I don't want to use foul words here, but all i've got to tell you.

1. bull**** their skepticism
2. Make more money online.
3. Use their skepticism as your biggest Motivation to Make MORE money online.
4. MAKE So much money online, that they'll ask you to teach them.
5. THEN Make more money and buy all the things life can afford to give.

Yeah most of the time it's best to just not give a damn I guess. But unfortunately I'm that kind of person who can't stand people who are so sure about something when in reality they don't know shit. I can't stand to wait to prove them wrong, but it is motivating indeed
 
You don't need to prove yourself to anyone. Why waste your energy trying to convince someone? If your friend says all that, just tell laugh along and nod while thinking how clueless he is. You're in this journey ALONE, so don't let anyone other than YOURSELF sway your mind about anything.

Look whenever anyone says to me that internet marketing isn't a real job. I point them to the countless adverts they see on websites. Big name brands pay guys like us to rank their sites and advertise their content. Put it in laymen terms for them if they can't understand. Just remember to some it's "easy money" but in some shape or form the majority of us work hard to make a living. Put in the time and effort and you will go far. Listen to the BS and it will get you nowhere. This is the same for everything in life. It's your life mate go live it.
 
It's never worth the energy battling skeptics. Smile and nod. Just focus on your own thing. Your paychecks from IM will speak for themselves.
 
Unfortunately I do only make a little pocket money at present so not an issue I've had to deal with yet!
 
These threads pop up here often. Just ignore the sceptics.

You can't convince the whole world that what you're trying to accomplish is viable, and you'll just inevitably waste time and energy on these people anyway.
 
Just dont pay attention to people like that. At the end doesnt matter how much proof you have or money you make, some people won't change theirnpoint of views on things because you want them to, and if you do they will hold a grudge against you " Fucking WahtsOutThere think he is better than me, proving me wrong and shit the piece of shit" you dont have to convince anyone, what will you get? Like Zwielicht said dont waste time nor enegery wit that type of people.
 
Just prove that they were wrong , work while they sleep , work while they party , work while they do whatever else .

You will have fun later .
 
Dealing with someone else's skepticism is just an energy drain, so don't waste energy convincing them or anything. Just work hard and shut them up with results. Why do you even care if they are skeptical or not? You believe in yourself, don't you? So you don't really need their support. So to summarize: what everyone else said ;)
 
You are all absolutely right and thank you all for your answers. I'm just going to focus on the work from now on
 
look back at the great inventors and business people. They all came across this at some point, Walt Disney was bankrupt and told to do something else.
I would just keep what you do to yourself, then when you get some success talk about it.
 
I've been into IM since 2009. Let me tell you this from experience:

Some people around you won't just get it. The amount of effort you put into convincing them won't matter. Trust me on this one.

Secondly, what they say is kind of true.

If Google ever messed with you, while relying on it as your only source of income, you'll know what I'm talking about. I've been there and I've lost money before. It happens because it takes a while before seeing a positive ROI sometimes. What if something happens before getting there? Well my friend, you're doomed.

What I have done however is do a little something on the side. This is to make sure the bread is always on the table.

I have started a shipping company (from IM money), and it's now pretty much operating itself (with it's own employees). I also started importing some products originally to sell them online, and now I sell some of them to local stores.

It was just a step I had to take. Took me hard effort to get there, but I'm happy with the choices I've made.

Now I have all the time to work on what I love. Not worried about losing money in some ventures as the risk is always there.

I haven't stopped doing what I love for a single day, and I'm making extra money!

Thankfully my family is a lot more supporting than some. One of the reason being that I actually earn something :P
 
I don't mind people are skeptic. I know it would be very difficult to explain to people what we do. What I can say, keep it to yourself. Study what you need to study, apply techniques and find the right formula till you found a working formula to get you where you want to be.

Make use of your IM earnings to open up other businesses. This is to increase your income in some way. Have multiple sources of income. When one source is down, you still have 2 or more working.
 
Why are you even telling these to people who don't understand it? It's ok for everyone else to not understand it, they feel comfortable in being a loser, and they will try their best to take you down to their level.

If you can't keep your mouth shut about what you are doing, just leave IM will ya?
