I need to find a free way to cover my tracks while making social bookmarking accounts etc.

I suggest you read up on using proxies...
There are several ways of using and getting proxies, and you can switch between them for every account (and of course clear cookies/history/everything). For social bookmarking, I'd have to say that I don't think they really care...I have several accounts on all major websites, and I've never encountered a problem not using a proxy.
