I know that some of the nulled themes leave behind "hidden" backlinks and redirects, eval(), signatures etc. And there are lots of plugins and antiviruses that check for malicious code.
But how do you check if a site (that you are not the owner of) is using a nulled theme? Is there a way?

Well for beginners, most nulled themes don't support key features of the theme. You begin to see errors and stuff.
Some nulled themes have an encoded website name in it. So if you test a site using - http://whatwpthemeisthat.com/ ,you could see something like "Newspaper theme - mafiashare.net" or whatever.

Don't think there's any other way.

You can change that out in the theme editor. Anyone with half of a brain knows better than to keep that stuff on.
