When buying a niche or micro niche site or sites what names to stay away from
and how and were do I find out that I can't use that name in a DOT com ?

Is there any ?

Say if I bought leatherairjordans.com
would I get in trouble for using air jordans in the name or no ?

Yeah pretty much if you use a brand name you run the risk of being shut down.

If you want to find a brand, just Google the word that you think is a brand, if it is, it's the most likely to show up.

I'm talking about companies suing for
using there name brand in a .com.

I saw go daddy on TV once and i thought it was a porn or dating site. Came to find out it is a domain hosting site.

A good place to start is here

HTML:
http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/index.jsp

You can search for trademarks there.

How would you know that its really the company that wants it shutdown ?
I guess really you won't ever know absolutely for sure unless you refuse to c&d and they actually do decide to take legal action over it. If you're in North America or Europe it's probably not worth the risk to ignore a c&d over it if it at least looks legit. Might be worth a little checking to be sure it isn't an obvious scammer, but usually not something you really want to risk getting sued by a big corp over.

If you live in a country that's pretty loose about copyright and trademark laws then you might just ignore it. If it's legit then eventually they'll shut the site down themselves but you might not personally be at risk for anything more than losing the domain. That would be a judgement call on your part though based on how much you actually know about how things work in your country.

Ya I see people using like bosh nail-gun and whatever name so I just think using the name bosh or whatever other product name you might get in trouble for using it.

Bosh or Bosch.. I believe the brand name there is Bosch and they are using a mispelled domain.

No I missed spelled it, what I was getting at though is using a companies name you would think you can get in trouble.
