If they are comments which add something about your niche, keep them.
He is saying to moderate them, if they are spam mark them as such. You can get comments that add to your keyword density and increase your relevancy for the keyword... I find that for the most part this just isn't the case though so if you want an easier job in maintaining the site... go for it just disable them.
comments can deliver at least 2 things
1. fresh content to the pages so Googlebot keeps on coming back
2. other content with new keywords that you may not have thought of...and you can probably start ranking for because someone included it in their comments

Comments are a good thing, so long as they're relevant to your topic. They're especially useful if you don't have alot of content in your actual post. I'd imagine, being a movie blog, you're probably not posting 400 word articles. I'd keep the comments, making sure to moderate out the ones that say "good post" and the like.
the Aksimet plugin for wp helps weed through some auto spam junk, but not all. you will need to check em out now and then and delete any that slipped through spam filters. Comments are free, fresh content.. an added bonus it is makes your blog look popular, and other people may comment on someone elses comment..![]()
I'm debating if I should disable the comments feature on my movie sites, but wondering if this is a bad idea for SEO purposes. I imagine that comments aren't that critical, but then again, i'm no expert on SEO.
Any thoughts/feedback?
Sorry I was in a bit of rush on my last post! Indeed moderate - why not even choose a list of words related to your niche and then write / outsource a little coding so that you only accept comments if those words are contained in the comment. There might even be a plugin somewhere that already does this or I may have just thought of something new - I doubt it!
OK it's not perfect but if you're on the brink of turning them off anyway, then that's probably the best idea because they'll be adding to your website whilst preventing any automated comments. Hmmm now that's got me thinking...
As long as they don't involve outgoing links and the comments are of high quality I think they are a great addition to almost any site - especially a product page or review page for example. Any time visitors / customers can generate content for you it is a win situation.
Hello otherwhrl,
Please keep in mind these are just my opinions. No one outside of the group of people who right the code for search engines really know what matters and what doesn't. I offer only my thoughts from my own experiences.
On-page SEO is very basic and limited. You can try to pick domain names that have your target keyword in it. You can tag your keywords and you can make sure that they show up on your site somewhere. As far as keyword density goes, I think it is completely useless.
Think about it, what does keyword density say about your site? It does not make it more relevant, it does not improve the quality, it really does not mean squat as far as everything a search engine is looking for. Yeah, it is probably important that target keywords are on your page somewhere but beyond that you should be fine.
Also, you should probably just disable commenting if you have a network of sites to moderate over. In my opinion, most commenting is going to be spam and if anyone really offers anything of value it would be with the price of their link at the end. Instead of outsourcing moderation you should outsource content.
Whether it is for your site specifically or just about movies in generally you can always spin each article hundreds of times and submit them to hundreds of article directories. Spend more time getting backlinks and less time with on-page seo.
Just my thoughts.
Kind Regards,
