How did you start making $$$?

Like most boys my first money came from mowing grass. My first decent money was when I won an art contest - the money went towards an Atari Lynx =P
I then use to do leathercraft and sell things such as coasters, stubbie coolers, belts etc at the local markets. Next I moved into my own fibreglass fishing lures which worked really well.

My first money I made online was for a horse racing selection program I made for my dad and then decided to put online over 10 years ago (I was about 14 and this is how I learnt to program). A bloke from Hong Kong got in touch with me because it was making him so much cash that he sent me a cheque hehe (the software was free).

When I got to uni I started to write programs to rip off all of the companies that popped up with the pay to browse toolbars, AllAdvantage etc. I got a few nice cheques from that hehe.

I kind of stopped doing it and forgot about that whole world until only a couple of months ago and here I am again.

I also used to make brainteaser/wire/wooden dissemblement puzzles and selling them on auction sites. I really should write an ebook on that!

First few dollars were when I was 6...pressed flowers and made bookmarks at $0.25 a pop.

By 8 years old I was shoveling and mowing lawns and at 12 I was baking bread for $3 each (this was back when bread was $1). That got boring after a few years so I made puppets out of small white gloves (1 finger for a pig, cow, dog, farmer, etc.) - that was my first business where I actually shipped stuff overseas.

At 16 I opened a lego shop on bricklink.com buying sets at 70% off on ebay and discount stores and selling each part for...well, way more than they were worth.

From 15 - 22 I also tried a whole bunch of summer jobs (gawd I hate those).

After selling ebooks for $25/each I convinced myself that a virtual product with 99% profit was worth 100% of my attention, and since then that's all I do. :)

@ age 10 I started selling my toys until I got into trouble w/ my grandma.

@ age 12 I found an advertisement about making money writing on "special" envelopes. Saved some money, sent away for a kit, kit never came.

@ age 15 Found out about "stuffing envelopes" for money. Made $20

@ age 16 got my first job @ a "crack house".

Also @ age 16 got my first legit job. So I did both. (Always managed to keep a legit gig)

18th Bday caught my first Adult Felony Charges.

@ age 19 I saw an infomercial about SMC. Bout a kit, made no money. Got another job and started selling drugs again.

@ age 19 Seen a million infomercials about getting rich with dumb shit. Spent most of my drug and working money on those kits.

I can keep going on and on, but the moral of the story is, I have always been a dreamer, and an entrepreneur. And no matter what our walks of life are, most of our stories will be eerily similar, because most of us on here are true entrepreneurs.

Not a coincidence at all. How do you think that we wound up here on this marketing forum ?

very true.

and DAMN you used to actually sell REAl drugs?!@#! wow. guess we are black hat after all :p

It is remarkable how similar we are... I have been involved with very similar bh businesses like selling bootleg dvds, cc fraud, selling toys, over charging customers at my part time and pocketing the difference. Im steering toward more legit things now, but whoever says "crime doesn't pay" hasn't really tried it. I see an honest entrepreneurial spirit behind everyone's post here. It is crazy how we all came to the same place by whatever method to end up here. Insiring.

Selling Nintendo ROMS on Floppy at $2.50 a pop per game per Floopy during primary school.

first time i made money was also the first time i was scammed... :D

age 7, my dad was really into e-trade and stuff..
being an excited kid who desperately wanted his first mobile phone
i saved up $10.. gave it to my dad, and asked him to buy me some nokia stock...
(he didnt really do it, i was a fucking kid lol)
asked him about it about 3 weeks later and told him the tv says it went up 2 percent so i wanted to sell my stock..
he said okay, looked around the car for some spare change, and handed me $2 and said "there you made a profit..."

i was giddy for weeks.

8 years later i realized that technically my dad should have given me my initial $10 back too, i was scammed.

LOL

needless to say my dad doesnt remember this but to me its like it happened just yesterday.

i went on to take custom lists of songs from girls, download them with kazaa, make them a cd and sell it to em for $10, teehee.

But then 2% of 10 dollars is .20 cents and not 2 dollars. :p

Freshman year high school - betting ring on school and pro sports around the cafeteria. Never got caught and I rinsed about $2k a week. It paid for my college degree.

I was about 9 or 10. My grandfather had a farm. I got fruits from there and sold them at a nearby tourist spot.

its amazing how we are all so similar :D

Wow!!! I cannot believe how many people here actually sold stuff that they stole from shops and actually sold drugs.

I am totally aware this is a blackhat forum, and I will probably get slapped by some of you here, but that is not impressive AT ALLL!!!

My earnings have grown exponentially since I was 12 (Yes, I was making money at that time).... Right now I am 24, and I am quite thankful that I never sold drugs or robbed walmart to make my first $$$

Pirating... would sell CDs for $100-150 a piece. This was well before most people knew where to get warez, so it was an easy sell.

stealing :(

Im ashamed of it, but I went back when I earned my own money and gave back in double to the people I stole off.

I sold R4DS cartridges (piracy devices)to my friends and on Craigslist when I was 12.
Bought them from Hong Kong for $5, sold em for $50.
I sold enough to get an iPod Touch.

Now I'm 13 and sometimes I make $100 a day, like yesterday.
BOOM BAM!

Unfortunately, I stole too.

(takes a hit while waving at God)

But the real stuff that hits you when you are young can stick with you... Maybe this will help you in your business too!

(exhales)

I was maybe 8 or 10 - the age when you do a lemonade or kool-aid stand at your garage sale (or event). I saw a bunch of kids selling and making some change, I knew I could do this...

I approached my Aunt and told her I wanted to have Kool-Aid stand at her sale, but I wanted to give the Kool-Aid to the kids for FREE. She asked me how I would pay for the sugar and still make some money?

I told her I wanted to just have a "tip" jar at my stand (I saw it in an old movie with a piano player)... My Aunt even thought I was a crazy kid - but she agreed to let me try.

I had the ONLY FREE kool-aid stand in town and word spread just through the garage sale 3 or 4 day event.

EVERY SINGLE DAY I made at least 4-6 times what my competitors at a nickel a cup were making, and I could shut down at 2:00 - Talk about crushing the competition... Yep, that's right, I had Moms, Dads, kids, brothers, Aunts and neighbors just putting money in my "tip" jar - To humor me, to help out, to laugh about it, whatever... I made money (and then you learn to almost empty your jar every half-hour!)

Use the right spin man, and then just abide.
