How did you quit smoking?

Don't smoke tobacco, but have been smoking grass (weed) for some 13 years now.

Wanted to quit 7 years ago :(

I'm at 28 now, and I smoke for 13 years or so... I smoke 1 pack of cigarets per day, that means 20 cigarets every day.

I know that's a bad habit, and it's no good, but it seems like it's not enough to convince me to quit for some reasons... I feel so stupid...but this is how it is..

I'm thinking of quitting and now i'm preparing a strategy, i have 2 things in mind:

  • Start lowering the number of cigarets from 20 to 10 for 1 month and then go for 5
  • Quit, and that's it.
I don't know how i'm gonna feel or so... and that's why im looking for some advice from you.

How did you quit...and why?

Thanks.

I smoked cigarettes since my childhood - a pack a day since I was about 12. Started vaping 2 years ago, now I can go for days without vaping and I could never stop smoking for even a day. My lungs feel better, my cardio has improved, and I feel better than ever. Cigarettes started to stink after about 2 months. Now if I try to smoke a cigarette I feel like something died in my mouth and it's really a bad experience.

About vaping... It's all about the setup. I changed 5 setups to completely lost my apetite for cigarettes and now I'm using everything you can get for about $50 - Eleaf Pico 75W with Siren 2 MTL tank (RTA with Ni80 wire at 2.5mm, 6 wraps) and 12mg nic e-juice. It's the closest to cigarettes you'll get, but with much less harm done. The same setup helped my best friend and my gf stop smoking and they have both been smoking a pack a day for 10+ years.

Just give up and suffer few days/weeks.

I did before twice for almost years.

But I love then to much :(

Maybe try this book:

I have smoked since I was about 12, my Wife has also smoked from a young age.
We are trying to give up at the moment and have gone on to vaping.
Haven't had a Cig in 3 months, will carry on vaping for a full year then I will hopefully stop that too.

How do you start smoking at 12???

Burn a 100$ bill for smoking more than 10 per day.

Then cut it down to 5 per day.

Then leave completely.

Chances are, you'll feel like jumping back to the habit. So always keep a 100$ bill in your pocket (or a significant amount you'll hate yourself for losing).

Don't compromise with yourself. Make sacrifices instead. The 100$ bill should keep you on track.

This helped me get over my social anxiety for good.

How much did it cost you?

By having people offer me cigs in the playground/behind the bike sheds.
I looked older so could always buy them, I think at the time there wasn't a minimum age of 16 or it had just been introduced.
Me and my mates used to get pissed in the playground too, ahh school days, best days of your life.

I never had to burn anything. I forced myself to go out and there was no looking back.

The thought of losing money would pack me with a brute force power to slice through social interaction.

I cut down slowly by breaking habits like first cigarette in the morning with coffee, as soon as I got into my car, after watching a tv show etc.

Having places where I wouldn't smoke would help. So I stopped smoking at home, then I wouldn't smoke in my car etc. I was still smoking but went from 30 a day to 5 that I really enjoyed.

I quit pre-vaping but that looks like it would help. I used one of those nicotine inhalers at the time (20 years ago) that was a big help and took the edge off when I was hungry for a cigarette, for example with a drink in the pub.

Ultimately you need to want to quit, you have to accept that every cigarette is killing you. If you go three weeks without a cigarette and then light one up, that's just a moment of weakness, it doesn't mean you are a smoker again you just quit immediately after and go again.

As an ex smoker I can tell you, get off that shit as fast as you can. Its horrible, its killing you, its making you poor, smelly and unhealthy. If you have the right mindset you will get over it. It might take a year before you start feeling and looking better but you will notice the difference in the long run.

I didn't. I only started like 3-4 years ago and i don't smoke regularly. Sometimes i don't smoke any for a month or two, then i smoke a pack daily for a week. lol

i quit 1st time few years ago and i can say it was relatively easy i tried electric cigarettes (didnt help) then just said myself no more.. but i start again after 8 months, 2nd time i stop same way and return again maybe 1 year later.. 3rd time was so hard to quit i was telling myself every day tomorrow i will stop but not possible..then i quit in october 2017 and so far im clean, first month-2 are hardest and desire is so big you will probably dream cigarettes and how you smoking.. i got cold or flu 4-5 days i coughed, didnt eat very well and you cant even smoke, then when i got better i just continued and tried to not smoke or buy cigarettes anymore :) i wish you best luck man its not easy, but definitly worth to stop. everything feels better, health, more money in pocket..

My friend was a smoker for years, used to smoke like 3 or 4 cigarettes when we would make a simple McDonald's run.

He tried the vape thing for a week or two, eventually threw it out and quit cold turkey - I still smoke my weed with tobacco, and it's a nasty habit that I've been trying to kick.

My friend hasn't smoked a cigarette in well over 2 years; I suppose he just had the willpower necessary to quit!

Everybody is different though, if you feel like gradually decreasing your intake would help out.. so be it!

It got to a point where I would feel sick after each cig I would smoke. Until the day finally came and I said it was enough.
I would recommend that you keep your mind busy during the day and stay away from friends that smoke for a while, they will bring temptations lol

The cravings for cig will be too hard to control
What I did was lessen the daily cig I smoke two at a time...

Before I was a heavy smoker I could smoke 1-2 packs in 1 day (age 15)
at 19 was having a hard time breathing and so I lessen it to 2 cig
then once the cravings kicks in...chew menthol candy instead of cig

after a week you'll get sick (fever in my experience)
After 2 weeks you'll breath more freely than before

and a month you'll completely control it... and find a girl that you really love to tell you and restrict you to stop smoking... It helped me

Hope it make sense

You said it yourself. It's a bad habit. You can't eradicate a habit. Replace it with a good one. Find a different way of dealing with stress. Lowering the number of cigarets wont help you.

Yes, get in the gym, start lifting weights and changing your overall eating and nutritional plan.
Once you do that, you and your body will see how cigs cant fit into the picture, at least
thats what worked for a family us.
