How Did BHW Become So Wealthy?

I guess same as always just time and lost of hard work to get the thing going (plus a great idea to begin with).

I do agree with OP though, it is interesting to know the story of a successful website.

Dave sold it recently. Would be interesting to know how much for.

Was around ~500k.

BHW is profitable, but it doesn't make as much as some people think.

The real value in BHW (from an owner's perspective) is the list of members. Could be an extremely valuable list if marketed to properly.

Obviously it gets a ton of traffic too, so selling direct ads (banners etc) is also very easy.

Forums can be an absolute bitch to get profitable. BHW started at just the right time when BH was beginning to come into fashion. It gained momentum in the CS and CL days but then a lot of us stayed around even after certain sections were removed.

But, as my dad told me, no one runs a business at loss. Either BHW must making some profit to the owner, or at the worst, it makes money = expenses.

That's really not true. Lots of businesses operate at a loss. Whether or not they survive is a different matter, but it's not uncommon for companies to be run at a loss for years until they finally go under.

I own sites that I purposely run at a loss - that's completely intentional and is part of a longer term plan. Facebook didn't breakeven for years.

it cannot be as you said.
even if the business does not runs most of the people still move ahead because they think about future profits not present losses.

I thought he lost it on the poker table.,..lol

but people gotta remember if harro or damion ask for a review copy for anyone selling a service here they will probably get it to use on other sites.

I doubt that. You don't know harro from earlier. They make enough not to bother about content worth a few dollars, especially when you're claiming they are publishing it for free.

Woah the blackhatworld LOGO from the 2005's..

When i see it, the Background music of Scooby doo plays on my mind....lulz

I would suspect this is Dave (or David as he was known then!).. But I'd like to know who was.. "BlackHat" as he was the most active member for 8 months!

I myself are feeling this first hand at the moment which is a reason why I am curious to know what makes a forum work.

Interesting post

I'm guessing then bhw might make 25-35k per month?

Wealth and monetary value are two different things.
The wealth of BHW is in the content.
The monetary value is of no concern of mine because I
neither own or wish to own BHW.

Less than that. Forums tend to trade at high multiples as they are generally very sustainable once they have hit a certain membership level.

I can't really disclose too much more information than that as I know the brokers who sold it so have a bit more information than I can give away in public :)

Fair enough meathead - I wouldn't expect to hear the figures anyway, mine was more a statement than a question;)

Oxon, totally agree, there certainly is a wealth of information here! Lots of good blackhat info but also authoritative whitehat stuff :)

Pretty sure Harro's name is David also.

So it was 2 Dave's running the Operation :D

Ads go for a few $k a piece :) so they are definately making money on autopilot practically.

Slightly off topic but it's always been a theory of mine that unless you know
white hat you can never do black hat.
How can you cheat at a game you don't know the rules of?
I see this as the reason so many people fail.
Blackhat is a way to supplement whitehat.
I've been here long enough to see people loose their blackhat earnings
overnight and then come crying.
Rip, Rape and Run or intermingle you cannot mix the both.
