There were 145k cases as of right now, from which 76k have been closed. In those 76k ones 5.4k died, so that makes a rate of 7%. (Source:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/)
This perhaps is pointless but you can´t divide the total number of deaths between active cases. You need to divide it between the total amount of reported cases.
This way you will get a more accurate
mortality rate of the virus.
Total # of people who died / Total # People who were infected
So, the actual mortality rate is 3.73%.
Which is still very low.
But, I checked this stat last week and it was around 2%-2.5% so, it means it´s growing.
Looking a bit deeper into the mortality rate by demographic...
This graph taken from the same source above says the mortality rate on people above 50+ years old is around 28%.
Waaaay above the average of 3.7%
Also,
People with a pre-existing health condition are a lot more likely to die. For example, people with diabetes infected with the virus have a mortality rate of around 7%.
Also, for some reason, men have a higher mortality rate than women.
