I own a subreddit similar to r/clevercomebacks and wondering if it is possible to monetize this?

Selling links is obviously a decent option. I'm not sure if it'll work, but MAYBE selling merch could be an interesting option too.

Since the niche is comebacks, I'm pretty sure there'd be some amazing one-liners or inside jokes that members use very often.

You can pick and start creating merch around those. And promote it back to the sub-reddit in a way that it looks like they'll be supporting the community by purchasing these items. You can maybe also create a sidebar leaderboard where you mention the top contributing users based on purchases.

I know Reddit hates self-promotion but since you're the owner, it'll be worth a shot. Good luck :)

It's basically like r/clevercomebacks. Clever comebacks and roasts

This niche has no commercial value, your best bet would be driving traffic to your own website and monetize it with CPM ads. You can also sell shout outs like on IG.

Interested to hear ideas on this.

But, what I am thinking now... maybe make a website on that subject and monetize it with ads.
Maybe make posts like top 10 clever comebacks voted on reddit this month. Something like https://cheezburger.com/10959877/clever-comebacks-from-witty-masters-of-words
Also, you can try and sell a book like https://www.amazon.com/Viva-Repartee-Comebacks-Historys-Wordsmiths/dp/0060789484

Great ideas guys, thanks!

Make an instagram account, tell people to follow it and once it gets a good amount of followers sell shoutouts or sell the account and repeat the process.
Make a secondary reddit acc, post a meme and pin it from the mod account. Overtime it will get a lot of upvotes and the account will get karma. Sell the high karma account.

I wouldn't fuck it up with spammy links just to make a few bucks.

Just my 2 cents.

I highly doubt you 'own' a 1.5m subreddit as subs they size have a multiple moderators and any single one of them can and will get you kicked out if you start to monetise the subreddit without their consent. ( Which is by the way against the Reddit rules) and if you have the idea to kick them off the moderator team without reason they can and will report you and the subreddit which will in turn bring an admin to the subreddit. Who will reinstate the old moderators and won't allow you to kick them out again within 6 months and if you do they will permaban your account and will assign another top mod.

Website is your best bet (include your moderators, you don't have to pay them)
Just let them know that you have linked your site in the sidebar.

You're right no one technically owns a subreddit, but yes I am the top mod. Website is looking like the best bet at this point

I would for sure sell them an ebook for your niche....
