How can we check competitors backlinks ?

You can try Moz, Majestic, or Spyfu.

If the links are not visible in ahrefs then look here Google Search Console

I have already mention that If backlinks are not visible in ahrefs and semrush, but everyone is mentioning check with semrush and ahrefs, :( don,t know they have even read my post or not.
 
You can try some other Tools Like MOZ ,Majestic . You can search in Google link:competitorwebsite.com

To your answer here is a google dork that might help. Google this - "yourcompetitordomain.com" without https://www.

It will give a lot of sites where his domain is mentioned. It is simple but sometimes an effective way.

and what if ahrefs is not showing or he have ban ahrefs bot to his site ?

Yes someone mention this method and i have checked, i have found many backlinks of my comp, not as much or all but it,s good.
