There is various of ways to increase your website traffic. It also depends what's the purpose of your traffic? Alexa?Google?Social?Ad network?youtube?

I would prefer to start with buying traffic for a test to see how it works for you.
 
Increase traffic is a broad term, specify your site niche and which method you're currently focusing on..and many more..
Otherwise you're not gonna get any good advice rather than general answers like adwords, bing ads, facebook ads blah blah..
 
There are hundreds of ways available to drive traffic to your website. You need to read a lot here and pick the best method which is suitable for your niche. You can always use the social media platforms effectively to generate decent traffic.

Viral contents plays a vital role here too. Guest blogging on real and niche relevant sites will drive some good targeted traffic for sure.

I use only twitter and facebook and they are quite good for bringing traffic to your web site.
