How can I stop smoking???

Chantixx is from a drug previously made for "crazies". Zombified and mean is the best I can describe a friend who was on it.

Like mentioned I think willpower is king. You will quit when you really want to. After about a week you start to treat it as an accomplishment.

Good Luck!

Switching to e-cigarettes won't help you at all if you don't invest in a good atomizer. Try and get one from the Philippines and you'll be out of those cigs in no time.

I have been quitting and starting back for almost 20 years. I have tried the gum, several prescription pills, cold turkey and the patches.

The gum didn't work for me because I would forget it was nicotine and just chew it like regular gum.

The prescription pills and me didn't work well together because I experienced really bad side effects but I can say they do really help if the side effects don't get you.

I only have success with the patches. I can quit pretty easy now for a few day or a few weeks and a lot of times for a month or 2 then I always start back up. I guess that's why it is called an addiction.

The way I use the patches is I start with 1 patch, then I build up to 2 patches at a time, after I start really feeling the nicotine after a few days I put 2 fresh ones on in the morning then I change them out with 2 fresh ones before I go to bed.

For me it is like a nicotine overdose and it makes me feel like shit. Then when I wake up the next day I put 2 fresh patches on and don't even want a cig. For me it works every time. I haven't smoked for a little over 2 weeks now witch is nothing special for me and am down to just using 1 patch a day now. If I forget to put on a patch in the morning after about 2 hours I will notice I want a smoke still. I think I will have to use the patches for a very long time before I quit for good.

I have quit so many times getting to not smoking is easy for me, staying not smoking is the hard part. It will get easier and easier every time you try to quit.

Once you figure out how to deal with the withdraw symptom's the battle of will power and determination starts. I am a 3 pack a day smoker when I am not drinking, and 5 when I am drinking so If I can quit anyone can. Just got to try different things till you find out what works for you.

Good Luck

Do this. Give your cigarets to someone to hold for you. When you want one, ask them for it. When you ask for it, they look at their watch and note the time. In order to actually get another cigarette, you must ask a second time in 9 to 11 minutes (decide on a few minutes for the "window").

If you ask the second time in the "window", you get a cigarette, if you ask early or late, the timer starts over.

This process keeps putting off the cigarette when the urge to smoke hits. By putting it off, you may become distracted, or busy, and not need the cigarette at all, reducing the daily intake.

By not hitting the window, you increase the time between cigarettes as well.

I did this with a welder I used to work with and she quit in 5 weeks.

Who ever holds the cigarettes needs to be the least approachable, most ruthless, heartless person you know. Someone who will not give into begging or threats.

And use a patch, I hear the dreams are wild.

I hear this works for some.. I did this for a friend of mine and we ended up fighting (physically). I made him buy patches after that, and it worked, mostly. It was also way less painful. He was already a bit confrontational, however.

I ask my self same question everyday and when I can't think of any answer. I go and smoke for the failure.

Just don't smoke. It's easy once you overcome the change. Keeping yourself busy with physical activity will keep you from getting the idea of smoking. Cold stop is best. There is no soft solution.

well I am trying to quit smoking for last few months but never been able to do it completely.

I live in NYC. I agree 100% with this statement. At the end of the day, I would be a pack a day smoker but I love $$$ more than temp stress relief.

In your case, I would try patches if you haven't already. It's all mental though, if you want to quit you can.

I just recently stopped, my girlfriend also wanted me to stop, so I did, although there are times I want a cigg.. she makes me feel soooooooooooooooooo sorry for her when I say I want one as if I've failed her and like I'm just about to comit a murder, so I don't even bother, I have a Vapormax which seems to help quite a bit, haven't smoked in a month.

Stopped 5 years ago but it was because I wanted a better life and also didn't want to pay some company to kill me. Also, have you seen the commercials, its very scary and real. I wish you the best of luck I used tons of gum, water and stayed away from alcohol.

Try taking one less per day. After a while when you're down on 5-10 per day you can do remove one more every second day and then every third day. You won't know the difference. If it's to hard, try slowing it down and of course, eat alot of gum too.

Looking over the posts here there is a common theme. Many people simply say to just stop doing something. Yeah that is not going to work unless you want it to.

My idea behind stopping an addiction is to learn to identify the thought you have before giving in to the addiction. I would call this the trigger before the addiction. For example you're sitting around watching TV and you catch yourself reaching to start smoking. At that moment, pause and think back a couple of seconds. Ask yourself why. The answers won't be readily apparent yet but give it time.

Then, at least my theory is, you'll be more aware or conscious of this behavior and can choose to stop. Baby steps though!

Good luck!

stop on smoking is like a mad dog walking on the street lol

ps: If so do you so well

I recommend everyone who is trying to quit to limit themselves to a few cigarettes a day. Give the rest of the pack to your wife, brother, cat or dog in order to keep it away from you. I wouldn't quit cold turkey because It's hard. It's not as easy as some people who have never smoked think it is. If your having trouble doing that then take a look into Tabex. I know a lot of people who have quit using Tabex.

I tried quitting cold turkey and lasted two months but after that started smoking when I had drinks with friends and fell back into it that way.

I'm currently cutting down on my smoking, I went from 10 a day to 5 cigarettes a day now and constantly read about the effects of smoking and the risks of future health problems to motivate myself to ditch what is a very bad habit.

It's not easy but you will start to notice the benefits after just a couple of weeks. Good luck mate!

I wanna quit smoking as well. I dont know how people accomplish this task. Its like you are fighting with yourself.

just slowly cut it down. from a pack, to several sticks, and 1 stick less a day. don't quite instantly as you'll go insanely crazy.

When you start craving a cigarette try thinking about your goal.. Also get some sunflower seeds to substitute your cigarette.

2 ways of doing it...

1) Cut down gradually. Work out how many you smoke per day not, create a scheme to cut down gradually and stick to it. For example if you smoke 30 a day now, do 25/day all of next week, 15/day the week after, 8/day the week after that, 1/day the week after that then none at all.

2) Cold turkey. Get rid of all your current cigarettes and under any circumstances, do not buy anymore.
