how can I rank a picture only website?

Aloha guys,

I've started a blog (fashion related, geo-targeted in germany) which is 90% pictures. It's going okay for a start, I'm building solid backlinks, social media (like jacker) and getting shout outs from bloggers. This way I get around 150 visits per day (with around 500 impressions).

Is there anything else I can do to get ranked?

I would still add some content to it. How about having a few articles about fashion that are related to the site?
 
Here are a few things to do to rank a picture website:

1) Name all your pictures the KWs you want to rank for BEFORE you upload them to your site so your permalink to the pic is a KW.
2) Use alt tags for all your pictures that are a variance or a synonym of your KW.
3) Name the image your KW once it is uploaded.
4) Add a description to your image once it is uploaded.
5) Backlink the image urls as well as the pages they are posted on.

I've been doing a fair amount of testing on ecommerce sites, which are heavy image sites, and this is an important part of ranking them.

you just keep creating offpage seo backlinks for your site that will help
 
This is basically what I was going to say, this is good advice. The only thing I would add is to insert hyphens or underscores in between keyphrases so instead of blackhatworld.jpg it would be black-hat-world.jpg

You had mentioned using some social media (like jacker). Just wanted to add that you might also want to look into Instagram if you are not already actively using. The fashion category is very IG-friendly and tends to rack up a following, and if your are including your links and relevant tags to your IG posts, your site should start getting more traffic and an additional ranking boost in time.
 
Add Alt tags for your picture; if possible add some description to those with the target keywords. I would suggest you to do some content marketing. Focus more into social signals and build relevant backlinks.

Or is it the other way around? Would it work even better if used at the same time?
 
Images also store some hidden data like EXIF data, etc which can be re-written with some free tools. Not sure if it has any impact on SEO but if I were in your situation, I would definitely Google and learn about it.
 
I tested that on some pet projects and shit.
no content = hard to rank for shit.
at least write some 100 word content mentioning a phrase that has your keyword.
else title, and description.

+1. yes . they spider that info, too. use tinypng and it's gone. or some other "instagram" stuff to clean it up.
 
On/Off page SEO is the concept of improving individual webpages in order to acquire a greater position and generate more appropriate natural traffic.
