How are you getting offline clients? - Methods

Here is a question for you all;

Which is better;

- Ringing up
- Emailing
- Snail mailing
- Going in-person

Each has their advantages and disadvatnages.

Ringing Up

Advantages: it is really quick, you can get through a lot of people this way, plus they hear your voice and know you are a person.
Disadvantages: You often don't get to talk to the owner, and it is hard to be convincing over the phone with nothing laid out for you but your voice. Calls also cost money.

Emailing

Advantages: it is a more relaxing method for the person because they can read your details in their own time, don't feel pressured. Its also free.
Disadvantages: how seriously do people take email, and how often will it just be discarded.

Snail mail

Advantages: Individualised snail mail is nice to receive. It makes you look serious since you've been proven to invest money. Its also easy to do as
Disadvantages: Even if people like your marketing materials, will they bother to pick up the phone?

In person

Advantages: if you are going in-person, then you're clearly serious. You are also much harder to "get rid of".
Disadvantages: It is incredibly time-consuming. If you show up without an appointment you are really infringing on their time. You don't do this with people not in your local area.

So then; if you're going in person, do you guys make appointments?

Advantages:

When i go to a local store, the purpose is only to make an appointment and to get him ready to what i've to sell.

The appointement feed 2 purposes :

1) You make the customer available for you

2) The customers feels more ready to buy even if he gave an appointment to get rid of you. He will think "oh i have this appointment with this guy who sells .... "

Figure if your good at SEO or good at sales. If your good at SEO hire a sales guy if your good at Sales hire an SEO guy. Simple but it works...

so i showed my wife your avatar just know and she thought it was Hilarius she said the more she looked at it the worse it got. Great job!

you can also try, leads groups. Every area has at least 2. They always will give you a free introduction at breakfast or lunch. You go, and meet all the members for free. Give your business cards, collect theirs, make contact. Nice thing about this is one: Its free, you have 10-20 business owners attention, everyone in the group needs sales, or they would not be there, they are all in the selling/buying mode, their group is all about giving and getting leads. Typically, every meeting if they do not bring everyone at least 1 lead, they get fined. Great way for a couple easy sales.
Also, trade shows are great. Local areas always have trade shows for businesses, set up a booth, meet tons of business owners....

Congrats on trying to run a legit biz...but may I aks why these Offline ideas are even on a B.H. forum? What's B.H. about them?

Thank you for all the great information. Personally, I get my offline clients one of 2 ways.
1. I've met them in person
2. Someone has referred them to me

I would really like to hire someone to do sales, and have tried to do that, but it's really hard to find people willing to work strictly for commission. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to find competent commission-based salespeople?

great tips and ideas, has anyone tried marketing on local city news websites?

There are many saying that email marketing is not working try this. get your self a tracking programme you can see a sample range here (not affiliate linked) hxxp://emaildotaboutdotcom/od/windowsreturnreceipts/tp/certified_emaildothtm (make usual aleterations). When you send an email your tracking will let you know when it has been opened as soon as it comes up on your PC that the email has been opened ring the guy on his telephone. Your message has to be fresh in his mind and invariably he will say something like 'I have just read your email....' he is not sware that you ghad a tracking code hidden in the email. Email breaks the ice and you can make a lot of appointments this way... Good Luck

BHW isn't just about BH. There is actually a reasonably thriving WH community on here :D

As for me, I've been getting clients recently through my website. Set up a nice website, and do what we do best; SEO on it people! :D I stick to WH on that but hey, this is your website... feel free to go nuts ;)

But phew. Legit, WH offline marketing it tiring but rewarding :)

People are ruining emailing, spamming constantly, I think direct marketing, like sending letters or postcards is a good idea

1) Do the opposite of what every other hack is doing. EVERYONE is pitching "first page of Google" and using SEO lingo (even SEO is lingo). This begins with not pitching to the same people everyone else is (plumbers, dentists?the usual suspects). Pitch trailer hitch shops (you'd be surprised how much they make), storage units (independent ones), and A/V places that rent equipment. Nobody is pitching them.

2) No bartering. No discounts. No getting feet wet. You are trying to run a business, not a charity. Know your stuff and get paid what you deserve. Find businesses with stable income and in business longer than five years. Use Manta if you have to.

3) Don't just sell SEO?be full service. Sell ranking AND conversions. If the client is getting a 95% bounce rate on that great #1 keyword, it isn't doing him any good.

4) Almost all methods of getting clients work, you just have to test, test, test, and tweak. Be patient.

5) Forget testimonials?offer a teaser free service. Everyone can afford free and it's easy to do. If you sell SEO, rank a video on page one in a week or secure their Google Places page and set-up basics for free. Put their business logo from their site on an eBook cover with 5-10 pages of "plumbing tips" if it is a plumber and give it to them to give clients. Little eBook covers look exciting to the non-technical. You get the point?free is the best gateway drug.

the free part is something I have be trialing with success

when you contact a business, you can see where they are ranking before the call and if they are a local business they will certainly have some low comp KWs you can attack

for local and low comp I just use a trusted pyramid service from fiverr, the pyramid is done in like a day, I then blast all the tier 1's on a free RSS and within 2-3 days the low comp KW is sitting fairly high on page 1

When you can show small businesses before and after stats like this theu lap it up

They are then super hot for you to work on a package for them

I am sure many of you can build your own pyramids etc with your tools so it will cost you zero

for those without tools, $5 is a small investment and you can also ask the customer if you can use their ranking as a reference- they are normally ok with this

Finally that customer will bring you referrals, just offer incentives, extra seo etc and they will tell their business friends in different areas

Free is a massive incentive, make sure you choose a very low comp kw and you will be set

trying some groups on fb, will let you know how it goes
