Guys,

I'm looking for a host that can handle a huge number of visitors a month. Somewhere in the tens of millions of visitors a month, lots of ads being served. I need lots of speed and five 9's uptime. Ideally I'd have a dedicated IP but it might not be necessary.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I was learning towards Host Gator's business plan.

Thanks for the note. How much is this service going to cost me? I don't want to spend much more than $120/mo. I've heard lots of good things about host gator, but the insta-bans of sites that are getting too much traffic gives me pause.

It's going to cost you a lot more than $120 a month for your tens of millions of visitors a month.

So you're expecting "tens of millions" of visitors a month, yet you don't want to spend more than $120 on a server?

Okay...

I was going to suggest several companies that can put together nice dedicated setups for you. But $120 a month, and tens of millions of visitors? Someone needs to revisit their business plan.

Well how much will it cost? I'm open to being corrected on a lot of things, the cost of servers is one of them. I'm just used to working with lousy hosts and micro niche sites that cost like 20 bucks per year.

What kind of site are you planning on running? Are there a lot of images or big files? Also, pageviews are much more important than visitors. Are the visitors going to be looking at 1 page or hundreds. That will make a big difference in terms of server needs. Either way, you're looking at $X,XXX to $XX,XXX per month for servers. But that shouldn't be a problem if you running ads.

I think you need to talk to a hosting provider, most of them have live chat.

All of my sites produce about 500,000 visits a month and I pay over $500 a month for my high end server.

how did you manage to get so that much traffic before figuring this one out? what host were you using before? did they say your server load was to high or why switching now? They must be a pretty good host to hold you for this long

It's more of a situation where the traffic is growing rapidly and I want to get in front of it while I can. It's nothing I'd ever expected to encounter.

Like I said, when you're pretty new in this game, going with crappy cheap hosts is what I'm used to.

Check out Avrixe's plan and see if its vps servers fit in your price range.

Their is no point hosting micro niche sites on big servers you need hundred of shared hosting accounts

10'000,000 visits even with CPM would make at least 5,000 a month with a crappy monetization plan . Some one need to take a small look to their monetization method.

I would firmly suggest looking toward a cloud hosting provider. Also if you are expecting tens of millions of visits per month let's just do a simple breakdown of how much you should expect to be earning:

10,000,000 views per month
3% ad click rate
10,000,000*.03 = 300,000 clicks per month. Let's just say each click is worth five cents.
300,000*.05= 15000 USD per month.

Now imagine if the average click was $0.50, you'd be rolling in money ($150,000 / mo. | 1,800,000 / yr)

If you can't convert 3% of that traffic there is something wrong. Spending 1000 USD a month on your servers wouldn't even be a problem with a 1% click rate.

Up your estimates in cost and search for business solutions. Contact each hosting company and tell them your situation. Whether you have jumped from 1,000 visitors a month to 500,000, they should be able to custom tailor a program for you. Think about it this way, if they cater big sites like yours, its more press for them.

However, if you are going to have this traffic stable, I would suggest to start looking into getting your own servers.

You need at least $500 worth of hosting for that much traffic. I suggest you ask at webhostingtalk for more info.

I have been using the rack space cloud system for a while. It is really neat to reply servers fast and change around resources. But for your needs, you need to look closely at CPU utilization and bandwidth. A forum site will use different amounts of CPU than a file download site. Some hosts will have higher markup on the same hardware. Other hosts will have a premium charge on bandwidth. Talk with a few hosts and share your growth numbers. Also, please look at fully managed servers as that will bundle in all the Server support.

I need lots of speed and five 9's uptime.

Forgetting everything else, the only way you're going to get 99.9999 uptime is to host out of multiple datacenters in multiple countries. Have a chat to akamai, they're about the only one that can do this for you. Expect to pay through the nose for it though.

Guys,

This is why BHW is so amazing. Great responses from all, and I will look into everyone one of them.

You guys are fucking awesome.
