HostGator this bad?

I really liked DigitalOcean too, but my technical knowledge with updgrading / apache / etc is limited lol i get 500 internal server errors from time to time and no idea how to fix, i google a fix until it works lol
I thought shared would take that part away, i do like the speed of DO and having my own setup, just a pain if you mess up lol
Is the majority of you guys using shared or DO/Vultr setups?

I wanted to say the same thing.
HostGator is best? Of all the reviews I've read so far, I think I would avoid it as much as I can. Also, why you don't recommend DigitalOcean? Just curious.
Better use some image from the marketplace like Openlitespeed WordPress. It's the easiest to install a WP site. Plus, it will automatically issue a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate for your site during your first login.

I would even recommend Hostwinds, they are for sure better than what HostGator is!
EDIT: I have also heard really good stuff about WPXHosting. Their prices are high, but I believe they are worth every single cent they charge!

Beginning in 2007, I started using HostGator....Initially, I was impressed. Customer support in particular was outstanding. By 2011-2012, customer support became simply awful....I switched to a different provider in 2014 which I am very pleased with..the name of this provider is Web Host Python. Excellent customer support and very stable, well maintained servers etc.

only pros can afford it, scale with your requirement don't buy expensive and hard to configure hosting at first

HostGator by sure is one of the greatest budget hosting companies.. if you don't break their Terms of Service
.. well, they do have plans for everybody, though still - they are best known as a good and reliable budget hosting company with real customer support.

I've had no real problems other than:
• Bad support ( I figure it all out myself - they're incompetent )
• Very slow at updating ( phpMyAdmin is a REALLY old version, they can be lacking a PHP version even a year after release )
• HTTPS isn't applied automatically, had to go to support and have them set it up, didn't seem to be anything in the control panel
If you can handle all that, it's not a bad choice.

After 10 + years still going with Hostgator without serious issues, or enough to get my knickers in a twist anyhow.
I do migrate to a new account every 3 years to get a better deal - no big deal ther just me being a skinflint
They do the move for me anyway so no big loss there and a clean new login and no hosting 'history'.
I also use a few other providers and they are all much of a muchness really, just a place to use and abuse.
Pity you never hear about the good reviews when searching online - only those with a beef get traction.
Oh well - nature of the beast, or Gator in this case. (Sorry - had to snick that in there!)

Hostgator is not great and not bad. Stick with "private hosts" (provided they have good stats). If all else fails hit up nixi or siteground. Kinda can't go wrong their imho.

I've used Hostgator in the past and never had a problem with them. Sometimes their servers were kinda slow, but I didn't expect any better for the price. I've never had to deal with their customer support so I don't know how they treat customers. I think it's a fine company especially if you are a beginner or just want a simple and ready to use solution instead of setting up everything from scratch with Digital Ocean.
