Hostgator lost my site

So ive had hosting with hostgator for a while, and those of you with them will know that when you register initially, the site you use is your primary domain.

Was just about to add an article there and the site had gone. Tried to access the wp-admin and got a 404. Contacted hostgator and after an hour on chat im awaiting their response to see what the feck is going on.

Its kinda weird cos last nite, i tried to acccess another one of my sites, and the whole site was gone also, when i contacted them on chat, they said that i had changed my nameservers and had to wait 24 hours to propogate, now i know these guys are brainier than me, but having someone tell you that you have changed your nameservers when you know you havent is a bit unsettling, never mind insulting.

Just waiting on them getting back to me now via the ticket system. Anybody else been through this shit?

That's a new one. If it's a dns problem your site files should still be accessible via ftp. Just use IP as the host.
 
That's because HostGator blows. Run a DIG (or NSLOOKUP) on your site and see where the dns record points. Their nameservers could be down. If you do not know what dig or nslookup is google "Online DIG" and use the online tool. As Crixus said the site should be accessible by FTP. If you want to view your site you can usually view it by cPanel account name by going to the following


SERVERHOSTNAME/~username/
or
SERVERIP/~username/
 
Pay $15 and they'll restore your site from a save file from 1 week ago. Remember to always backup because hostgator will restore your site from your backup for free.
 
They have been known to change your nameservers without telling you. Just open up a chat with customer service and make sure what they think your nameservers should be and what you think they should be are the same thing. In our experience, this is usually the problem.
 
ive 2 tickets in their ticket system now,

in the past few moment EVERY SINGLE SITE HAD GONE DOWN!!!!!

Im now getting database error on my others sites.....WHAT THE ******** MAN?
 
My experience with hostgator, they suspend my script because my autoblog really make high cpu usage, they only chmod my index.php and wp-cron.php to 000 so nobody can access my site, except I still can login to wp-admin. After I tweak my site and they say it's ok not caused high cpu usage anymore, they unsuspend my script.

I also had problem with dns server, it's not on hostgator but the domain server, dns server may need only seconds to 24 hours to change domain record when we change hosting.

Maybe on your case, check your domain ns server from where you bought your domain, maybe it's down, then check browse your site from another ip address by using proxy.

Unfortunately, it appears that the logs for this incident have already rotated off of the server. It does not appear to have been done through cPanel or FTP as we have full logs for this time period for those service. Instead it looks like a vulnerable script on the account was exploited to allow the attacker to make these changes. I've completed the restoration of this account at this time. Please update all of the scripts on the account and change all passwords to prevent further comrpomise.

We have enabled extended logging on the account, so if there is any recurrence we should have better evidence regarding the issue.

I had same thing. I lost about 30 sites on one of my servers last night. Security team said there was some sort of script exploit, which meant all the files on my domain/sub domains were deleted. Seems I'm not the only one then...

what is the best way to auto back up?
are dont worry about it cuz hg does it for ya?
 
i think there is a wp plugin for backing up....

Hostgator have tried resetting all the passwords and stuff but apparently its not working. ive insisted on them phoning me, cos im well pissd about this.

Cant believe it, first my paypal and bank, now my sites...time for a new comp i think , cos barring that i cant think of any way to get these fecking hacking twats the feck out of my life
 
looks like there are some serious problem on one of their server, maybe hardware failure or hacked, but they won't tell us the truth, of course
 
christ sake, how hard is to phone a number..."we tried phoning but we got jazz music"...wtf you talking about....then they asked the internation code and country code!! are you frickin serious? multi million dollar organisation and they cant cater for the international customers?
