"Honey Chrome extension is corporate wiretapping"

So maybe I'm a little green here. If all it's doing *to me* is telling PayPal or whoever that I buy dumb stuff - while giving *me* discount codes as I shop, is it actually hurting me in any tangible way I should be more aware of? Not sarcastic - honestly wondering if I should be worried at all.

If Paypal is seeing my shopping trend in exchange of discount codes all over, I am not much worried. But I will follow-up and keep it disabled when I am not shopping.

WTF :D Why do you get shocked?

This is funny because ANY website owner can sell website data on Doubleclick Data Marketplace, AppNexus or Adform :)

Only if you value your privacy.

I'm not going to turn this into a political discussion, but mass collection of personal data - and the weaponization of that data - has gotten us where we're at today in the United States. That kind of information can be used to sway public opinion & do all kinds of other shady stuff.

I agree with you, but I it seems to me that the american public is completely ok with this. They act all outraged every time that a big company is caught actually using the data that you gave them, but they still use Facebook, Google, YouTube, Honey, PayPal, Twitter, and the list goes on. Nobody really wants to put their money where their mouth.

To me it was pretty obvious it's just like another FB pixel? No?

It can literally track everything, including what you search for on sites that don't use analytics tools. This is stronger than the info Google/FB gets from us.

Because this is way beyond just browsing data collection. This extension behaves more like virus than actual tracking pixels.

This is way beyond regular data collection. Read the thread.
