Hi Mods,

I check the Hire a Freelancer thread quite often and I notice 90% of the people that post there do not follow the simple rule that they must include their budget when writing their post.

This is likely that most do not read the posting rules.

I had an idea that might solve this issue.

When posters are writing their freelancer request, they should be greeted with a compulsory box where they must include their budget. And will be unable to submit the request without filling in this box.

I feel that this will smoothen the process for both hirers and freelancers alike.

Thank you for your time.

People who post in HAF have no idea what they want done costs, that's why. They do not want to over pay.

Yeah you are right. Maybe this compulsory box might help them plan a little better so that they don't waste both theirs and others time.

We could make a box to fill, but people would just put any rubbish in there just to bypass it.
I see your point, but educating through the frustration of losing their thread and warnings if need should sort it out. We advise them to set a price as laid out in the rules here if they intend to get good quality replies/feedback.

EDIT: Mistake - I referred to old rules, not the ones updated in Feb.

Anyone can currently post a Hire a Freelancer thread. For the best results make sure you make it very clear what exactly it is you're looking for and what you are willing to pay to get the task completed. Whilst not required, stating a budget and/or wage in your thread (e.g., $30/hour for a wage, $1500 for a project) is highly recommended to avoid time-wasters and to find freelancers you can afford faster.

We're also looking at a new post type where threads will have suggested fields that would solve this issue as it could effectively guide any potential poster through the recommended process resulting in the maximum gain for their post.
