Blackflags, Puzzle(in the videos) & I all grew up together. Known each other for over 15 years.
I actually promote for them & shoot/edit their videos. I am definately no pro and have a ton to learn but I enjoy helping them any chance I get.

Many artists have more than enough skill to make it but lack the intelligence and skills to promote themselves effectively. I see this far too often as a producer. Another great thing to do is to release consistent free music in a creative format (i.e. Kanye west and G.o.o.d. Fridays or Game and Sunday Service) and promote the MESS out of it on sites like hotnewhiphop, datpiff, hiphopdx etcccc. Sites like those can really build a healthy following. Also, twitter is extremely effective in networking for hip hop artists.

Actually i already started doing this for a friend of mine.Hes an amazing hip hop beat maker and an mcee.But here in Romania hip hop is kinda doomed so i always said to him why not take it online.Forget the mcee stuff cause like i said hip hop in Romania is dead and take it online and sell beats or make colabos with other good mcees from around the world.

So finally he started to listen and we got to work.Hes taking care of the beats part and remixes and i do the marketing for him ( he also gives me a hand there ) and we will see what comes out of this

So here is what we are working on right now.We made a youtube channel,myspace,soundcloud,facebook and an account on a social site for beat makers.So far so good.We got views,plays and followers.Hes really an amazing beat makers and i do have a good feeling about this.

And now for all you old school heads out there i present to you a nice remix made by my friend.The beat is made by him in FL and he put an The Eastsidaz and Snoop acapella on it.Now roll up a joint relax and feel the music

Everybody seems to be bringing something to the table here why don't you all just team up and use each others skills to provide a one stop shop for artist? I actually stumbled upon this while looking for a way to get some traffic to my music funding website. But it sounds like if the people in here actually teamed up you guys could form a company or something if anybody is interested in partnering to do something like this hit me up or pm me. I cant send yet cause I don't post often but this sparked my interest. And I'm all for working together.

This is nowhere near as easy as it sounds though, don't take it softly. Great method from 2011nfl, but it's not a regular IM method where you can just do a couple of hours of work and expect money to roll in passively. You're effectively managing an artist so it can get hands on.
Also there is no set method for this, there's hundreds of thousands of artists out there on YouTube with enough talent to make it big but they're all trying to promote their 'hot new single' too so you gotta be creative enough to pull it off.
BUT if you got the ideas, this could be a major deal, especially if the artist gets national, managers fork in a fuckload.

The idea is a watered down record company. Instead of a solid promotional plan, you use a website and HOPE people will like his / her music. The difference between this and a record company is investment capital. I am pretty sure you can even add to the method, like actually trying to promote his stuff by buying advertising or followers for YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. The only problem I see is that the "method" is quite shallow and fragile. It is almost easier to just start up your own record company, promote it locally or online, have people sign up, then have some local businesses actually try and sponsor them in return for incentives or ad space.

This is definitely a good idea with so many rappers out there locally in the US. If you decide to get into this, you have to put some 'hard work' to reap the bigger benefits (Like many people mentioned here). But definitely worth the try if you have the 'promotion skill set' and also 'like' the music industry and plan on constantly participating in this area.

One good example is Wiz Khalifa's tour manager Will (Boo Will - the white guy you see on almost all Wiz' videos). He is the brains behind Wiz' 'Taylor Gang' brand. Will (who went to Penn State) pretty much approached Wiz when he saw him performing off-campus shows and stuff in Pitt. and helped him with marketing and promotions. Now this guy is managing so many different artists and making millions.

I've been in the music promo game for a minute and I can def say its not as easy as it sounds. For one, there are TONS of rappers/simgers out there tryna promote their stuff online and offline.

Independent music fans are far fewer than mainstream music fans - most people aren't interested at first unless you're a big name.

You really need to consistently push out new product (songs) for free, and get it into the hands of early adopters who will share their music.

its that word of mouth promo that is most important, the mainstream discovers music in two ways - thru friends and on radio. You can reach those indie fans thru social media, online discovery platforms,etc. SEO is tough with music artists though, it's more about content marketing.

And music promo is just as much offline as it is online. You have to play live and network/build relationships. Do collabs and throw shows with other artists. Go hand out CDs at clubs/colleges/etc.

It's a tough game though. Just my .02

I think this is a great idea, I have a hip hop site also and think we can all benefit from this.. I can't PM yet either but let me know...I'm with it

Hi everyone,

I ran into promoting artists accidentally and ever since that's mostly who I have been working with.


I have to admit its very fun and being in Nyc they are everywhere.


I have started many successful Skype groups in the past and some of the members become life long contacts and buddies.


This looks like a great opportunity for us to become great contacts and just learn and evolve together.


Anyone interested Pm me and I will also contact a few guys I already know in the industry.

I'm going to cap the group at around 10-12 members so we got a good core circle of guys.

I suspect you'd make more money selling gold chains, spinny things on wheels and hoes than facebook pages to rappers/rnb peeps.
