This is something I just brainstormed a few minutes ago and I want to give everyone a shot at it. The main focus of the method I am about to reveal is Hip Hop (rap). Everyone knows that hip hop is the most popular music on the charts, and the money to be made is astronomical. The basic plan is that you will promote rappers. You will be their manager. So here is how you do it.



  1. Set up a "hip hop" based website
  2. Set up a corresponding facebook, twitter, tagged, pinterest, and any other social media account to link to the site
  3. Find a (not so well known, but good) rapper that you would like to promote. If you are in the us, this will be easy because all you have to do is ask around the city and find hundreds of them.
  4. Offer him a deal he can't refuse. Tell him something like, all he has to do is put together a killer album, and one real good video, and you will pay him $100 for the video, then promote his music and make him famous. You split the profit.
  5. Explain to him that you are one of the top internet marketers and you can get him instant popularity
  6. While he is creating the album (which should take at least a few weeks) you can do a little seo, and some "coming soon" advertising
  7. Once he has created the album, and the video, then you post the video on youtube, then embed that video on your website, and link to all of your social media accounts
  8. Then of course you will blast ads for the video everywhere.
  9. The goal is, to get them to watch the video, and like it so much that they buy the album.
  10. Then once the guy starts making some good money, you raise the stakes. You start setting him up at shows, and tours, and so on.
  11. You will both make tons of money!



This is in no way a quick money method, but if done right, it will be well worth it when the money does finally start rolling in. Plus, other rappers will want to cash in on the success, and before you know it, you will be an "IM Rap Manager" :D

This can also work for singers. The key to everything is finding an all around likeable artist. If i may add. One way to find people is to just search around YouTube. I can name several different artists on YouTube that are really talented, but don't have the knowledge to promote their music.

I might end up trying this. Though it is tougher to do this online than in person locally, I'm going to attempt.
 
Hip Hop artists get it. I talk to at least 3 on the phone every day and they are all chomping at the bit to spend money on promo. Love those guys

That is 100% correct. I actually meant to ad that in the op, but hey. You remembered it before me :D But definitely, I agree
 
Until the day comes that I can get myself into the arena I want to, I wont do this. But I WILL try and test this method on myself and will learn the trade properly to do this with others!
 
Keep in mind some of them eventually get famous and believe they don't need you anymore because they don't know you. Draft a contract. It doesn't have to be legit or anything but he will adhere to it most likely and it will also display a level of professionalism.

Definitely. You always want to have contracts in place (especially when alot of money is potentially involved) And actually, all it takes is a $15 notary to make it legal :)
 
yes of course, As you know - "music" and "sex" are the 2 different thing in which people always love to have in their life forever..

I have been doing this (kinda) on a smaller scale. This method still works...esp in Memphis.
 
i work for worldstarhiphop the biggest urban media site in the world. I have tons of clients on a similiar format. But I just manage their social media and consult. Nice 500$ extra per client per month. Currently have 14 clients. My 90 day goal is 31 more

Yea, dallas is the same way. A rapper on every corner, and every gas station promoting their music. Its actually surprising that some of them aren't already famous, but thats because of the lack of promotion :)
 
I'm working with a well know rap artist in Houston. I am going to help promote him on social media and he is going to endorse our product. It should work well b/c like you said hip hop is popular and has potential to go viral. It is a good idea.
 
This is a good idea OP. Guys think of it like this. How did Dr Dre find Snoop Dogg? Of course he was looking for talent.
Really just put the honey out their and maybe just maybe a music mogul might come your way. As a manager with a well
written contract you will have money in your pocket for sure.
 
Two friends & I are in the same business here - Short Fuse Entertainment. We are still in the learning stages of course but we hope to start a nice little movement. We start Feb. 1, 2011 but just started pushing it pretty hard in the past couple months.

The hardest obstacle is getting people to share your YouTube videos, songs, merch and such.....it's such a pain but I think we have built some solid relationships that may help is in the long run. Collabs are a huge help for us. Seek out larger artists that would possibly collab with your artists...having your artist exposed to said artists fans could have a huge effect.

Speaking of, IAMAZEME - How do we go about getting a YouTube video of ours posted on WSHH? I know it's theres probably tons of hoops I gotta get through huh? PM me if you are interested in my two artists. I can provide you with links to their stuff if you'd be interested in checking it out :) They have AMAZING lyricism, we just lack funds on PROFESSIONAL music videos.
