Hey guys i have a domain already, i made a new website but i put it like this www.mydomain.com/newsite/ will this rank or should i just go ahead and buy a new domain name with keyword of the new site?

I personally prefer your structure... you can continue to add pages and get all sorts of crossover traffic as you get your new pages ranked.

I've got some sites that have a bunch of inner pages that are ranked real well in addition to the main page ranking for the same keyword phrase and they are very competitive KWs.

You can't just do onsite SEO, you'll have to work the offsite as well to get ranked.
