Help wanted to realize 50 vm's with remote access and 50 ip's

Hey folks!

I am trying to figure out a way to get 50 vm running which are accessible through remote control from all around the world. The only problem is that i just do not understand the math behind it.

Each of the 50 vm's will need to run 1 video on 5-7 different tabs though a internet browser.Each machine will run 18/20 hours a day.
The machines can be absolutely basic all they need to do is really streaming some you-tube vids and other video channels.
My questions will be
1: dedicated server with 12 cpu( to much?) and min 120 gb ram with 1 tb stream ( still do not understand if i can use VPN on a virtual server?)
2: Virtual server vs dedicated server vs. virtual desktop vs multi profiling? Jus need the cheapest solution
2: 1 cpu for 4 virtual machines ( to less?)
3: Each VM gets min 2 gb ram?( enough?)
4: Which OS would you recommend? 64 bit i guess Linux with virtual box?
5: Average monthly cost to pay server admin to keep this server running ( our example server)
6: Can i run Firefox with multi profiling and give every user his own ip? I Could rent a server access it through remote and run 50 multiple profiles simutaniously?Any other browser who could be used as well
7: Each machine needs internet connection and be able to use VPN client
8: How long is your suggestion to get the server stable running ( 50-100 hours) with 50 vm's ( after establishing the first VM they are easily multipliable in null time?
9: is there any admin panel you guys would recommend to get a nice overview over VM to work with remote access? i think about a cluster where i can click on each vm machine something like that?
Do i even need so many virtual machines or can the problem be solved through any different idea like i can use more than one ip within one virtual machine.
is there any other way you guys can think of to realize a system which can be accessed though remote control where each ip can be worked with. Each ip needs to be able to run 5-7 videos through internet browser and vpn client.

I don't understand what is the point of using VM's to run videos from youtube. Couldn't you just basically download them using youtube-dl and achieve the same benefit? I mean you could send the output to /dev/null if you just want to simulate a download. Are you doing this for views? Do you need to just download the video or actually run all of the other javascript files that are on youtube?

Also , what exactly are you trying to do, maybe I can offer some advice.

Do you happen to have one running now? If so what kind of resources is that pulling. Main thing to look at would be bandwidth since these will be running almost 24/7

What I would recommend is get a dedicated server. Set up solusvm on it so you can make VPS off the server.

If you are wanting to give them access to firefox and so on then you are going to need a windows server. Since each server is going to run windows. Then would recommend that you get the data center license for windows server.

As far as server config. I would start your first one with 1 GB of ram and see how it runs. With using windows and VPN.

Hey thanks for he fast reply. No it is not about clicks . Youtube was just a example to get the requirements translated to you guys.

Thanks bud that already helped a lot. Yes my vm requires 1 gb right now but i waned to have some air if i need more ram. Firefox is not necessary i just need to have a internet access from the vm throughout any browser which is able to run videos.

I would spec the server out with at least 64 GB or ram if you are running 50 of them. If its in the budget I would even go 128 GB Depending on how much storage each needs you could cut cost and only do 1 500 SSD drive. But at least I would recommend 2 x 500 SSD raid 1


You really have two options you could look at you can find a host and just order 50 vps systems from them If you ordered 1 GB you are looking at around 10 bucks give or take depending on who and what discount you get. So for 50 of them you are looking at 500 bucks a month.

At that point it would be recommend going with a direct dedicated server. But the option could be better to start with if you dont have the funds to go right into a dedicated box

I have to do my research and compare some numbers i really like the idea of the 50 vps. But at the end you are probably right and i will have to go with a dedicated server. Appreciate your help and the technical details.
