Help - unusual spam activity targeting our domain

I have been successfully managing a website from last 8 years - https://www.example.com. Recently, I noticed some unusual spam activity targeting our domain. Hundreds of spammy websites have started linking (using anchor texts) to our website URLs such as:

https://www.example.com/erection/double-mb9t7p-m-herbals

https://www.example.com/desire-male/what-retale-stores-in-lubbock-tx-sell-9ruq-male-enhancement

https://www.example.com/weight-loss-pills/sams-club-diet-pills-xglt8p


Please note that we have never created these URLs on our website, and they are not present in our backend. These links result in 404 errors; however, I have noticed that they are impacting our SEO performance.

Kindly help if anyone of you have come across such spam attack.

They are not linking your site , your site is hacked.
Delete the site, restore last site backup, update all plugins theme and wordpress core and install and activate a security plugin.

Yes, your site has been hacked. First change all the passwords on your site. Buy your hosting from a secure and trustworthy provider. Restore the most recent backup.

Thanks, but this has been happening from last 3 months. Nothing else has happened to the website. No warning in GSC. Also these links are 404

That's a classic negative SEO attack targeting your site. First, disavow those spammy backlinks in Google Search Console. Next, monitor your backlink profile regularly and set up Google Alerts for mentions of your brand to spot any new attacks early. Also, tighten your site's security to prevent further attacks.

Thanks but these links are using my domain to create those spammy links. So, obviously I cannot disavow my own domain.

In this case, you should focus on improving site security to prevent further unauthorized access and link building. Check your site regularly for vulnerabilities and suspicious activity, and consult a cybersecurity expert if necessary.
 
You don't need to think about the spammy links, you need to cure your web-site from the virus or trojan.
 
These are 3rd party sites linking to URLs that do not exist on his domain
Could someone please explain how this is a hack? or even what the purpose is?
 
Don't worry! Please talk to your hosting provider. They will help you to restore the last clean version of your website. I have been through such problems lately. I use namecheap. They helped me to recover it soon.

If this is Wordpress website then your sites i hacked
 
Guys, it's not URLs generated on his site.

It's external websites that are creating backlinks to his sites using URLs that doesn't exist to spam his site with 404 backlinks.

curious to as how you know the site has been hacked by this information?
 
This thread is so reflective of the current state of SEO.

Everyone thinks they know what the answer is, but the truth is, they don't even understand the question.
