So I got an amazon affiliate niche site here.. and I'm getting concerned in the speed of it.. It takes a while to load and according to pingdom it takes 7sec to load :(

I'm thinking the theme is the problem here or my hosting... I'm using thrive theme and my hosting is glowhost. I also don't have ssl at the moment.. planning to get one as soon as I fix this issue.

Hope someone can help.

Thrive theme is usually a fast loading theme, I have found.

Not heard of your hosting you are using, however @SpoonFeeder sorted out my site for me and it's blazing fast now.
 
You guessed it right. The problem is not with the theme as I've seen that theme load in less than 1 sec on one of my client's site.

It's your hosting which is slow hence your website.

From my experience, your TTFB and the long "wait time" is reason for this slow load time.

You can't fix it unless you move your site to another hosting/VPS.

Edit: @MisterF beat me to it. Thrive theme is really fast on it's own.
 
I would suggest you to find the reason why your website is that slow.
1. Go to https://gtmetrix.com, enter your url and press "Analyze"
2. After the analyzing is done go to the "Waterfall" tab and check where is the slowness coming from

I see.. Yeah looks like it could be the hosting.. thanks for the suggestions guys.

2.7mb from 51 requests... how big are the images? Have you compressed them? Run a Combine, Compress and Cache (CCC) on your JS/CSS should be a WP plugin for doing that if you get stuck.

I ask my web designer to reduce size of some images.. it did help.. but some times it still loads 4-5secs... I think it has something to do with my hosting.. planning to switch to a different hosting after my subscription to them expires.

Did you run your site through gtmetrix, Pingdom, or through G00gle PageSpeed Insights, to see what the issues are?

The reason I ask is because GlowHost is a pretty solid host and if they have issues, (which they rarely do) they jump on it.

My take? I would do my homework before pulling the plug on GlowHost.
 
caesium image compressor is free and great for greatly reducing image sizes, a word to the wise....!

3rd party links like jquery or css may caused for that so try to do some compress format hosted on your server as well and do some cdn or cache for to make it more efficient
